Sara was scared immediately. "What's wrong?"

"Hey, babe," Nick said when he heard Sara's voice on the phone. He didn't want to tell her this, but he knew he had to, that it had to come from him and no one else. "Morgan was hit by a car. She was awake and talking. Greg's going to the hospital with her. Do you want me to come pick you up? Sasha can stay with Jim."

"Baby, Morgan...It wasn't an accident. I would prefer if she stay somewhere safe. Either stay with her or come with me, but I don't want her up here." He knew his words were cruel, but if he lost Sara and his child, he didn't know if he would be able to live.

"Then stay with her then." He was serious about having their daughter out of danger.

"Call me and I'll have someone pick you up. Greg or Russell maybe." Depending on how bad Morgan was, depending on what Ecklie decided to do, what Greg decided to do.

"Yeah, fine." She hung up. "Morgan got hit by a car."

Jim's face fell. "How bad?"

"Don't know. I can't go tonight, I need to be with Sash."
He nodded. "You can stay around here with me as long as you want." He paused. "Has anyone told Ecklie?"
"I guess so. Jim, I'm scared."
"I know you are, Sara." He paused, wanting to tell her that Nick probably was too.
"If they hurt Morgan, what's to stop them hurting us?"
"Maybe that's why Nicky's scared as well." He said softly.
"He won't let me bring Sash to the hospital with me."
"Maybe he's afraid if you or he get hurt, the baby will too."
"Never. Never ever."
"If he lost you or the baby, it would be bad. If he lost both of you? It would kill him."
"How does he think I feel?"
"I don't think he's thought that far. He's just trying to protect his family."
"He is my family."
"So wouldn't you want your daughter somewhere safe? Nick as well, but if you can't protect him, then at least Sasha?"
"She is safe."
"Here. Which is why he wanted her to stay here instead of being all over the city."
He paused. "Sara, I'm the last one to give advice on relationships and I don't want to get between you two, but I know that Nick loves you. He's trying to protect you. Is he saying, doing, everything right? No. But I don't blame him. I would have given anything to protect Ellie. Nancy."
"You think I want her away from here. I don't. I just don't need to worry about her too."
"No, I don't think that. I think that Nick thought you wanted to go check on Morgan, be with Greg, and he didn't want you bringing the baby out into the public. At the hospital. Where God knows what could happen."
Sara knew they were right, she just didn't want to be apart from her daughter. ********* Two hours later, Jim got another phone call. "Jim." He listened. "No, he's not here. Is he not there?" He listened for a half a second. "Greg hasn't seen him?"
"Nobody has. Where's Sara?" Ecklie asked.
"Here with me, but they had a fight. He hasn't called for two, two and a half, hours. He was supposed to be on his way behind Morgan and Greg."
"He never showed up."
"Did you try his cell phone?"
"Yes. It rang out."
"I'll call back." He paused. "Is Morgan awake yet?"
"Not yet," he sighed. "Soon, hopefully."
"Let us know." He hung up, going to find Sara.
Sara looked up when Jim came into the bedroom. "What's wrong?"
He couldn't mince words. "Nick's missing."
"What?!" She started crying.
"He never made it to the hospital. They called his cell phone, but it just rings." He sat to hold her.
"He can't be missing..."
"You haven't talked to him since his call earlier, have you?" He thought maybe he'd missed a call.
"No."
"I'm calling Catherine. If she's not on her way, it's time she was."
Sara nodded, holding her daughter tightly to calm herself.
