Kensi was resting in her hospital bed, Deeks by her side as he gently cradled their sleeping daughter. Kensi had just given birth and was exhausted, but happy. She couldn't wait to share the happiness with KC.
KC, Callen, and Sam came in together, a black eye and angry red handprint on her face, but she was there. "Has she had it yet?" She asked Nell and Hetty who had been waiting since Deeks called.
"Ten minutes ago. Mother and child are both doing well," said Hetty. "Miss Landry, what happened to you?"
"Typical case, Hetty. I'm fine. Promise. But I think I'm going to find an ice bag before I meet the new team member."
"She's fine, Hetty. It's just bruises," Callen assured her. "Was it a boy or a girl?"
"Girl. Healthy and happy. And Ms Blye wants Ms Landry to go see her first."
"Ice pack will have to wait, babe." Callen kissed her cheek gently. "Go on." She nodded, going where Nell showed her.
Kensi couldn't help the look of horror when she her friend's face. "Are you alright?" She struggled to sit up and reach out to her friend.
"Deeks, make her lay down." KC said, hugging her friend gently. "I'm fine, Kens. You've come home like this before, you know you have. And I don't want to talk about it. I want to see my beautiful baby niece."
"We named her Amber. What do you think?"
"It's very pretty," she said.
"Do you want to hold her?" Deeks asked.
"Maybe later."
"Are you sure?" Kensi asked her. "She's asleep at the moment, but she's going to love you, cause I love you."
"I'm sure, Kens. You should get some rest."
"I am. Is something bothering you?"
"No, I'm fine." she told Kensi truthfully.
"Okay." She yawned. "I think I'm going to rest, but feel free to stay."
She was content to watch the baby for the moment. Deeks was holding her and looked as in love with his daughter as she did with her mother.
"Do you want to take her out to the waiting room?" asked Deeks softly.
She shook her head. "Maybe later. I'll let you guys get some sleep."
"I'm going to go and tell everyone the good news anyway, and then I'll rest. Are you staying with Kens?"
She nodded.
"Okay." Deeks smiled and gave KC a hug before walking out.
She winced when he left, but sat near her best friend. Kensi was asleep already, but her hand found KC's anyway.
*************
Callen couldn't help but smile as he saw Deeks come out, carrying his daughter. Sam smiled at the look on Deeks' face. "Welcome to the club, man," he said, his voice soft.
"She's so perfect, just like her mother."
"Well done, Mr. Deeks. Well done," Hetty said, approvingly.
"Thank you. Her name is Amber. Anyone want to hold her?"
Nell giggled as she put her hand up. "I do."
Deeks handed the baby over, a smile on his face. Callen thought of the test they'd taken before the case had started. Negative, again. They'd been trying for three months and nothing was happening. He wasn't begrudging Deeks and Kensi though. They'd gone a long hard road to get here. And the tiny little girl was beautiful, like her mom. It would have been impossible not to love her.
"Hey Callen, can we talk about something?" Deeks asked while everyone crowded around Nell and Amber.
"Yeah, sure," Callen said, turning his eyes from his goddaughter to his friend. "What's up?" He walked slightly away so the others wouldn't hear.
"What's with KC? She seems upset about something, doesn't want to hold Amber."
"She was capturing a suspect and he beat the crap out of her. Messed up her shoulder, her ribs. She's probably afraid of dropping her; she couldn't even drive over here and you know how she loves to drive."
"Poor thing. Kensi's worried,"
"She doesn't want to tell Kens about it. She doesn't want to worry her right now." It had been how the entire three months had been. She hadn't even told Kensi they were trying to have a baby as well.
"Trust me, not telling her is worse than telling her."
"There's something else too. If she knew I told either one of you, she'd kill me." There was no doubt in his mind she could do it.
"What?"
"We've been trying to get pregnant since she moved home. Hasn't happened yet." Callen looked concerned, but not worried, not yet.
"Maybe because both of you are stressing."
"I'm stressing about her. She thinks something's wrong with her, especially since it's been so easy..." Easy for you two, he wanted to say, but stopped.
"For us? It wasn't easy. And nothing's wrong with her, she just has to relax."
"You try telling her that. She's more of a perfectionist than her sister is." He referred to Kensi.
"Not possible," he laughed.
"Tell Kens not to worry. When KC feels better, she'll be holding her all the time." Callen hoped that was the case, but then again, he hoped they'd be expecting their own soon as well.
"As long as you tell KC to relax. That's how Kensi and I did it."
He nodded. "She wanted some ice. I should go get her some."
"Okay. She's with Kens when you get it."
