"She's just worried."
She nodded.
"Is the baby okay?"
"Yeah, I need to rest, but it will be okay."
"Good. Mandy, who is the father?"
She saw Kaya look up. "Ryan," Mandy answered.
Kaya smiled. "I knew it!"
Natalia frowned, knowing it was a lie. But she could see that Mandy wanted to protect Kaya."
"Honey, can you go get me a Sprite? Alexx will show you where it is and I'll stay right here with your mom."
"Promise?"
She nodded.
"Okay."
She waited until Kaya couldn't hear. "As far as she's concerned, it is."
"Fair enough."
"But in the way you're asking, Brad."
"Honey, it will be okay. Trust me."
"I do." She paused. "Where did Dad and Ryan go?"
"No idea, though if I had to guess..."
"Damn." She whispered.
"They want to protect you?"
"I know. I just...I don't want it that way."
"You don't have a choice."
"I didn't have a choice in what happened. I didn't have a choice in this. That's the one thing that I should have a choice in, don't you think? You can't possibly approve of what they want to do."
"I don't. I already tried to stop them, but they don't listen."
She looked pale and tired, still weak.
"I'll try again."
"Try what?" Ryan asked, coming in alone.
"Nothing, I guess."
"H is out with Kaya. He'll be in a minute."
"Okay."
"Do you mind, Nat?" Mandy asked softly.
"Sure."
Mandy waited until Natalia left the room to make room for Ryan beside her.
"How are you?"
"We'll be okay. I just have to rest. Take it easier. You were right. Today was...too much."
"It's okay."
"I told Kaya it was yours. Is that still okay?"
"Yes."
"Are you okay?"
"I am. Why?"
"You seem upset."
"I am."
"I'm sorry."
"For what?"
"That you're upset."
"It isn't your fault Mandy."
"I want to go home. I want things to be normal."
"As soon as you rest enough, I'll take you home."
"I want it to be yours."
"I don't mean to trap you. I know things are...complicated. I just..."
"It is mine. Just cause it doesn't have my DNA, doesn't mean it isn't mine."
"Yeah?" She asked softly, a hint of a smile.
"Yeah."
"Then it is." She said simply.
"Great!"
