Sara smiled at Morgan as she entered the crime scene. They were working together on a breaking and entering just off the Strip.
"Sorry I'm late Morgan. I got stuck in traffic." Sara was lying, but she didn't want to say anything to anyone just yet.
Morgan managed to keep the 'yeah right' look off her face and just nodded. "I just got here myself." Greg had been in court that day and so was excluded from work that night; they'd managed time together before she had to come in, but just barely.
"Do you have anything yet?"
She explained what she'd found and showed her where, then shared her theory, although she quite agreed that theories were just that until proven.
"There isn't much here to say there was a crime. I think we might be done. What about you?"
"I don't know." She paused, thinking this sounded crazy, even to her. "I feel like there's something I'm missing."
"Then let's keep looking." Sara knew the feeling all too well.
She saw very faint marks, like the heel of a shoe, not walked, but dragged. Her suspicions were confirmed when she found the broken heel. "Sara."
"Yeah?" asked Sara as she walked up to her friend.
She pointed it out. "What's the first thing you do when you break a heel off your shoe?"
"Take it off and get upset."
"So why does the trail continue?"
"Maybe she didn't realise straight away?"
"Four inch heels? Plus if you're going to walk in heels, the indention is straight down. I've never seen a heel leave a trail."
She added an afterthought. "Unless it's being dragged."
"Fair point. So maybe she wasn't even conscious?"
"Or alive."
"Only one way to find out. The evidence. There must be more somewhere here."
They continued the search until both women were satisfied and then agreed to go back to the lab and process what they had.
Sara pulled up at the red light, listening to Morgan tell her about her weekend plans. Sara's own plans were going to have to change now, but she was happy to change them. She and Nick were making plans together now.As Sara started to drive away again, she noticed something in the corner of her eye. A brief glance showed her that there was a car speeding towards her, not a good sign when there was no possible way for her to stop or get out of the way.
"Morgan, brace yourself, cause this is not going to be good."
Sara, instead of protecting herself, wrapped her arms around her stomach, trying to save her new baby when the car hit them. The two women hit the windshield, leaving them disoriented. Morgan tried to brace herself with one arm and the other instinctively going between Sara and the airbag without even thinking about it.
Sara lifted her head slowly, feeling pain but being more concerned about the baby and Morgan.
"Morgan, are you......?" Sara started before her door was opened. "Who are you?"
They didn't answer, but started to drag Sara out of her seat.
"Get your hands off me!"
"Stop it! Leave her alone!" Morgan cried out. She was pinned where she couldn't get to her gun without being noticed.
It was no use. As soon as they had Sara out of the car, they head around and dragged Morgan out too, carrying them to a waiting van, where they threw them into the back and drove off. Sore or not, Morgan kicked and clawed, getting the DNA of one of them under her fingernails, drawing blood from another. She knew at some point, Russell, her dad, Nick or Greg, someone would be looking for any help the girls could give. Sara's eyes teared up as she thought of her baby, and the fact that she couldn't protect it from these people. Morgan was near a panic attack when she realized she was being kidnapped twice in the same year, but she knew she couldn't let them see weakness and she had to be strong for Sara, especially when she saw her friend crying.
"Morgan..." began Sara, but she couldn't bring herself to say anything else.
"We're going to be okay. This is Vegas. Somebody had to have seen that. When they call the lab, Dad, Russell, Greg, Nick, someone will start looking. We've just got to hold on until they can get here, okay?"
"I can't Morgan....I'm...."
"I know you're scared. It's okay to be scared." She wasn't sure if she was telling Sara that or herself.
"I'm scared, yeah, but I'm also pregnant," whispered Sara.
She knew the wreck couldn't have been good for the baby or the stress now. "Does Nick know?" She whispered back.
Sara nodded. "We only just found out."
"All the more reason for everyone to be looking, right?" Morgan tried to smile, hiding her hands so Sara couldn't see them shake.
Sara tried to smile back, but she couldn't bring herself to do it. She knew Morgan was scared too, but she couldn't stop the memories of when she had been buried under that car in the desert, not knowing if someone would save her or not. It helped some having Sara there, but who Morgan was longing for was Greg. She still had nightmares of the shooting, how hard she'd had to fight for her life, to do all the little things everyone else took for granted.
"Greg's got the night off. When he gets bored, he calls me. I haven't heard from him yet, so when he doesn't get my phone, he'll call the lab. If no one saw, at least we've got that in our favor."
"I hope so."
Morgan wasn't sure if she was stressing herself out or if it was the wreck, but she was feeling sick. She could only imagine what Sara could be feeling though and it pushed her to be stronger, to not show any signs that anything was wrong.
Sara could see right through Morgan's charade, but she wasn't going to say anything. It was important to Morgan to stay strong, and Sara wasn't going to ruin that for her.
It turned out that Greg didn't have to start calling Morgan. Russell was unable to come in, leaving Finn in charge, and the lab shorthanded. He had a bad feeling, like the night Morgan was taken, searching that limo and not seeing her. He tried not to say anything to Nick, seeing his friend had his own problems.
