Deeks stood by ready to back her up with whatever she needed. Kensi looked through the eye glass and a gasp escaped from her lips.
"What, Kens? What is it?"
"He looks familiar. I've seen him somewhere."
"Is he the guy KC drew?"
"Yes, but there's something else."
"Does it matter right now?" All he wanted was to take the guy before he saw a gun pointed at him and decided to point back.
"I guess not." She put her finger on the trigger and started to pull it.
He sensed her hesitation. "What is it, Kens?"
"Something's off. He may have been the shooter, but something isn't right."
*******
KC drifted asleep on the bed beside Callen, her head on his shoulder. As soon as he saw her fall asleep, the guy walked in, his gun in hand to kill them. Callen's eyes opened as he felt KC's head on his shoulder. He was able to focus in on the man who wanted him dead this time. His plan ruined, the guy pulled his gun up and pointed it at Callen, ready to pull the trigger at a moment's notice. Callen's hand went towards the nurse's button. Where was Kensi? Where was Sam? Seeing Callen move his hand, he shoved the gun towards KC, his finger on the trigger.
"Don't hurt her. I won't press it. Just...don't hurt her." Callen knew he was showing weakness, but he couldn't imagine his life without her.
"Then, I'll hurt you."
"I don't care. Just not her." KC woke when she heard voices but pretended to be asleep, waiting for the right moment.
"Thanks for your permission," he said to Callen sarcastically.
Callen knew then that he was dead either way. The only good outcome from this would be for KC to be alive, unharmed. "If you're going to do it, get it over with."
He pulled the trigger, heard the crack as the bullet left the chamber. KC lunged at the shooter and, from there on out, it seemed to happen all at once. The security guards came in, KC fell down. Callen sat upright in the bed, ignoring the pain and screamed out to KC, hoping she would answer. She didn't get up and didn't answer. The guy shouted as the guards carried him away, past a nurse running in to check on Callen.
"Just help her!" Callen roared, unbelieving that a nurse could run right past the love of his life collapsed on the floor with no notice whatsoever.
"You are my patient."
"Then get her a nurse that will help her."
The nurse scowled but called for help anyway. Callen was already trying to get out of bed when KC's eyes opened again.
"KC? Are you hurt?" asked Callen worriedly.
"What, Kens? What is it?"
