"For as long as I've known her, sometimes even when she's upset, she's smiling." Calleigh could remember several instances of tear-stained smiles from her friend, not real smiles, but they were there. "And she's always talking. Always. It's kinda scary when she's not because it means...it means something very bad is going on." She knew she didn't have to tell him this. Horatio knew Natalia better than anyone and, if they lost her, he would feel the loss greater than anyone except maybe Kaya. "When we heard what happened...we just knew one, or both, of you had been hurt. But I wasn't expecting her like that." She'd seen both of them hurt before; she wasn't sure why this time was tearing her up so badly. Maybe because Natalia had never been hurt this bad before. She had, Eric had, but the others had always stopped just short. It was the first time they could actually lose her.
