"A woman came to the door today when Ali was having her nap. I'd never seen her before. She wanted to use the phone, but I let her borrow my cell phone. I wouldn't let her inside."
"Can you describe her?"
She described the woman perfectly.
"That sounds familiar." Callen thought for a second. "Oh no."
"What's wrong?"
"That sounds like Joelle."
"You know her?"
"Joelle is the one that Sam and Hetty set me up with."
"What do you mean, set you up with?" She knew what it meant, but she also knew she didn't like it.
"Sam wanted me to have a girl in my life. So he set me up with his daughter's teacher. Hetty went along with it."
"I'm sure she did."
"That was a long time ago. I didn't think she'd be jealous."
"I want Kensi," she said, almost unheard.
"I'll call her. Do you want Deeks too?"
"I don't care." Her voice was still quiet, a sign something was definitely wrong.
Callen hugged her to him. "Go check on Ali. I'll get Kensi."
She pulled away from him, curling up with her daughter, cuddling her close. Callen knew Kensi was with Deeks, but he also knew she'd come for KC, even if she had to drag Deeks with her.
***********
They were on a date and Kensi had forgotten to turn her cell phone to silent. "It's Callen." She didn't want to pick up but it could be a crisis with work, KC, or Alina.
"Answer. Make sure it's not the girls," said Deeks, worried.
She smiled, grateful he understood, and held his hand as she answered. "Callen, is everything okay?"
"No. KC needs you, now."
"At the house?"
"Yes."
"We're on our way."
"Thanks." Callen hung up.
"What's going on?" Deeks asked.
"I didn't ask. I don't think it's her heart, because he said at the house. He just said she needs me."
"Then we should go now. Something must be really wrong if she's asking for you while Callen's there."
She nodded, leaving quickly with him, scared for her friends.
*************
Callen opened the door to let Kensi and Deeks in. "She's in the nursery with Ali."
"What happened?" Deeks asked as Kensi hurried towards her friend.
"You remember Joelle?"
"She was pretty hard to forget." He felt safe saying that with Kensi out of the room, but just because he window shopped didn't mean he took anything home. Most of the time it just made him feel grateful for his own beautiful sort of crazy.
"I broke up with her when I got back with KC. She was here today, she tried to come in here. I'm scared she might hurt the girls."
Deeks was quiet for a few minutes, thinking. "Okay, the first step is to get the girls out of here. Hide them somewhere. I'm trying to think if she knows Kensi, if they'd be safe at her place."
"Kensi was still overseas. She has no clue about Joelle, but I know she'd keep them safe."
Deeks nodded. "Second step is to call Sam. He started this, he can help end it."
"Good idea. Hetty too."
Deeks muttered under his breath at his boss' name. "I'll go check on the girls and start packing Ali a bag. Do you know what KC will need?"
"Uh...Kensi will."
He nodded, heading towards the nursery. Callen took out his phone again to call Sam.
**************
Kensi was comforting KC and rocking a crying Ali back to sleep when Deeks came into the nursery.
KC still wasn't saying much, wasn't crying, but she was leaning against Kensi for support, her head on her knee.
"Deeks, can you take Ali for a while?" Kensi asked softly as she rubbed her friend's back.
"C'mere, princess." Deeks lifted Alina to his shoulder, rubbing her back, walking with her, something he knew relaxed her.
"We need to take them to my place. It's safer there than here right now."
"I know, babe. When Ali goes to sleep, I'll pack her a bag. KC needs one too. Can you do it? Callen didn't know what all she would want."
"I can do it," KC said quietly.
"Are you sure honey?" Kensi asked. "I can do it."
"I'm fine. I can do it."s
Kensi nodded. She took Ali so Dekjs could get stuff for Ali.
"Go with her, Kens. I can do this." They had taken care of Ali while KC had been overseas; he knew what she would need.
"Thanks Deeks." She kissed him lightly and then followed her friend.
