Sara climbed out of the car, laughing at a joke Morgan had told. She was laughing so hard that she didn't see someone come up to her until they pushed her against the car and punched her. Before she knew what was happening, Sara was laying on the ground, bleeding, and still being beaten to a pulp by someone she didn't know. Morgan tried to help her, but she was being held back by a pair of strong arms that wouldn't let her go. She tried to scream for help, but a harsh, calloused hand clasped over her mouth. She bit and fought but was unable to get free, much help Sara. It wasn't long before a couple of officers came running over, chasing the attackers. Morgan hurried over to Sara as someone called for help. Sara was curled up, pain radiating through her. She refused to move, even with Morgan there. She was too hurt and scared. Morgan was too shaken to speak, tears streaming down her face, even though she never cried at work, regardless. All she could do was try to make Sara comfortable, hold her hand. An ambulance arrived ten minutes later, and Sara finally uncurled herself. She clung to Morgan as the medics tried to get her off the ground. Morgan wouldn't let her go, refused to be parted for a moment from her friend, holding her like a child.
"Morgan," Sara whispered. "Stay with me."
The medic finally relented as long as Morgan let her get close enough to help Sara. After getting Sara to calm down, the medic managed to put her into the ambulance and take her to the hospital.

Russell was there when they arrived, Finn almost as soon as they came in.
"What happened Morgan?" asked Russell calmly, though it was clear he was naything but.
Morgan shook her head, her arms around herself.
"How is she then?"
"It's okay, honey. Go with Sara." Finn told her, waiting until Morgan left. "Medics and unis both say she saw what happened, but hasn't said a word since, not even to Sara."
"Did anyone else see what happened?"
"Morgan's the only witness right now. She's not hurt, just won't talk."
"I'll call Ecklie, maybe he can get her talking."
"I'm hoping when the guys get here..."
"That would be good, for both girls. Do we know how Sara is?"
"I'll see what I can find out. If you want to go to the scene, I can stay until the boys arrive."
"No. I promised to look after Sara, I'm staying until she tells me to leave."
"Okay." She didn't ask who he'd promised, just went to find someone who knew how Sara was.
Russell was pacing when she returned with a doctor in tow and the boys coming in.
"The girls?" Greg asked, instantly worried.
"Where's Sara?" Nick asked.
"Miss Sidle is in her hospital room at the moment," said the doctor. "She's conscious, but sedated. Miss Brody is with her."
"Can you tell us how she is?" Russell asked.
"Miss Sidle has extensive facial injuries, some internal injuries too. She needs rest and medical care."
"Can we see her?" Nick asked.
"You can, one at a time, for five minutes. She probably won't know you're there anyway, at least until the sedative wears off. And that won't be for a few hours at least." The doctor paused. "Miss Brody could use some comforting too. She won't talk, but it's obvious that she isn't good either."
Nick and Greg walked back together, each wanting to check on their girl. Finn looked at Russell. "I'm going to the scene."
"I'll meet you there as soon as I see Sara."
He headed off to Sara's room, his heart breaking for Morgan as soon as he saw her. Greg held Morgan as she cried into his shirt, whispering to her.
Nick couldn't do anything for Sara right then, so he tried to help Greg comfort Morgan. "It's okay Morgan, she's gonna be fine."
"Sorry, Nicky...so sorry." She whispered where only Greg could hear.
"It's okay Morgan. It's not your fault," said Greg. "Tell me what happened."
She shook her head, holding him tighter, trembling.
"Who hurt her?"
She shook her head, feeling like she would be sick, pass out. It was the worst thing she'd ever seen, her shooting included.
"Alright. You can tell me when you're ready. Why don't we go home?"
"No."
"Okay. Do you want something to eat or drink?"
She shook her head again. "No."
"Alright."
"He's right though, Morgan. It's not your fault. There's nothing you could have done besides get yourself hurt and Sara wouldn't have wanted that." Nick told her.
"Sara doesn't want you to cry. She'd probably want you to help her beat them to death when we find them," said Greg sarcastically.
He got a smile out of Nick, but not out of Morgan. At least she lessened some of her hold on him and quit crying.
"Do you want to stay here with Sara?"
She nodded. "Yes."
"Okay. We'll come back later with dinner for both of you. Sara will be awake by then."
"Finn and I can handle it if you want to stay with the girls," Russell offered, although it would mean one of them on their current case, the other on Sara's.
"I want to help, at least until Sara wakes up."
Morgan couldn't stop the three men from leaving them alone. Even the promise that Russell would talk to security didn't comfort her.
********************
Sara woke to someone sniffling and holding her hand tightly. She couldn't remember what had happened, other than being in a lot of pain. But she did remember Morgan being there with her, she remembered clinging to Morgan's hand like it was a lifeline. She remembered a woman trying to get her to relax enough to be taken to hospital, but she didn't know why. Morgan was curled up in her chair, the only part of her not in a ball was her hand that was holding Sara's.
"Morgan," whispered Sara, "are you awake?"
She nodded. "Want the nurse?" It was still hard for her to talk, she was having to almost force herself to do it.
"No. Are you okay?" Sara hadn't let go of her friend yet, and she could feel how scared her friend was.
She nodded, although it was obvious she wasn't.
"Liar," smiled Sara as best as she could. "Did you get hurt?"
"No." It was obvious Sara had though.
"Good."
"Do you...do you want me to call the boys?" Her voice was a whisper.
"Yes please."
She texted two words to both Nick and Greg. 'come back'
"Where are they?"
"Working."
"You don't want to?"
"Stayed with you."
"Thank you."
Morgan started crying again and desperately tried to hide it as she hadn't before.
"What's wrong?" Sara wanted to make sure Morgan was okay.
Morgan shook her head and wouldn't tell her.
"Are you sure you didn't get hurt?"
She nodded.
"Then why are you crying?" she asked softly.
"My fault."
"What?"
She shook her head. "My fault."
"It's not your fault. You didn't tell them to hurt me."
Morgan curled tighter.
"Please Morgan, believe me when I say it isn't your fault."
Nick and Greg came running in at full blast, ignoring the rule about one at a time. Nick's eyes lit up when he saw Sara and Morgan allowed Greg to walk her out.
"Nicky, Morgan keeps blaming herself."
"She talked to you?" He asked, easing on the side of the bed, careful not to hurt her. "That's progress."
"Very little. She said she didn't get hurt, but she's scared."
"She saw what happened. Since then, she won't talk to anyone but Greg, and evidently you, and won't let you out of her sight."
"I'm not going anywhere, clearly. Nicky, tell me those cops caught them."
He shook his head. "Not yet. That's where Greg and I were."
"Oh. Can you stay a bit? I'll let you take my statement."
"Baby, you need to rest right now. You don't need to worry about that."
"I'm okay. As long as you stay, I don't need sleep or rest."
"Yes, you do. You're very lucky." He paused, not wanting to think of what could have happened to her.
"I'm okay. Really."
"Please, babe. Please rest so we can take you home where you belong."
"Take me home anyway."
"Only when you're better. Only when the doctor says you're ready and they're not saying that right now."
"They haven't come yet. I told Morgan I didn't want them."
"If you want to go home, then you want them."
"You can be so mean sometimes," she grinned through a kiss.
"I've gotta take care of my girl, right?"
"You better."
He smiled, calling for a nurse.
"Morgan," Sara whispered. "Stay with me."
The medic finally relented as long as Morgan let her get close enough to help Sara. After getting Sara to calm down, the medic managed to put her into the ambulance and take her to the hospital.
