Nick walked out into the hall and told them what the nurse had said. "I'm going to stay overnight with Sara, but I think you guys need the rest."

"Good idea. Come on Morgan, let's say goodbye and then go home. We'll come back in the morning."

Morgan shook her head in reply. She wasn't about to leave Sara and knew there was nothing Greg could do to make her.

"You can't sleep here Morgan. It's not comfortable. We'll be back in twelve hours, maybe less."
Again she shook her head and Nick wanted to scream. Although her stubborn streak didn't come out as often as Sara's, she had one that easily rivaled her friend's.
"Morgan, I'm okay," said Sara, "but you can stay if you want. So can you Greggo."
Morgan sat back down and Nick realized, even before Greg did, that they weren't going to win the argument. "Fine."
"Morgan, I really am okay. I'm going home tomorrow."
She nodded, but nothing was getting her where she couldn't see Sara.
Soon, Sara was getting tired. She wanted to sleep.
Nick was back in the room with her, leaving the door open so that Morgan could see her, but on the side of Sara's bed, where she could lay against him.
"I'm worried about her Nicky, something's wrong."
"She hasn't talked much since you were hurt. I don't know what's going on, but Greg will take care of her. I want you to concentrate on getting better."
"I'll be fine. Nicky, she saw them hurt me. They held her back so she couldn't help."
"Greg'll deal with it, baby."
"Please get her to talk Nicky."
"She'll talk when she's ready." He was focused solely on her, what she needed.
"Nick."
"Sara. You are my first, my only, priority right now."
"I get that, but there's nothing you can do for me right now, so please, just try. If it doesn't work, then you can focus on me."
"We've been trying all day, Sara. She hasn't said a word all day. I can't make her talk. Greg can't even make her talk."
"She was talking to me."
"You're the only one."
"Let me try?"
"I want you to rest. Please."
"Maybe she'll talk tomorrow."
"Maybe. I want to try tomorrow."
"Okay. For tonight, please. go. to. sleep."
"Stay here. You're more comfortable than the bed."
"I'm staying right here."
"Thank you."
He kissed her hair, rubbing her back.
"Love you," she yawned.
"Love you too, babe. Go to sleep."
"I am."
Sara woke to find Nick had moved to a chair, and Morgan was back in the room. Nick was asleep, so Sara beckoned Morgan over. "Are you okay this morning?"
She nodded. "Are you?"
"I'm okay. I actually feel better today."
Morgan nodded. "Good."
"Nicky said you won't talk to anyone, but you are talking to me. Is he just imagining it?"
She shook her head.
"Why won't you talk?"
She shrugged.
"Okay. You'll talk when you're ready, I know you will."
Morgan nodded, but her eyes were pained and she was looking around for Greg.
"He's behind you. With something that smells an awful lot like coffee."
"Morning, Sara. Brought you some too if you want," he said, a drink carrier in his hands with four coffees, kissing Morgan's head gently as he gave her hers.
"As much as I would love coffee right now, I don't think I can stomach it. Sorry."
"It's okay. I'm sure it'll get drank. Do you need anything?"
"No thank you. But I think Morgan wants you."
He hugged Morgan gently, resting his head on top of hers for a little while. He had drifted off not long after Sara, but he had a feeling that Morgan and Nick had gotten very little, if any, sleep.
"Can you wake Nick for me?"
"Nick," Greg reached over and touched Nick's shoulder, watching as Nick woke up immediately, looking around, seeing Sara was awake.
"Hey, sorry to wake you. Do you think you could get the doctor for me?" She wanted to talk to Greg alone.
Nick nodded, taking the coffee. "Sure." He left the room.
"Greggo, Morgan is scared, despite what she says and makes you think. She needs you to look out for her."
Greg finally got it, not because of the words, but because Morgan wasn't talking back, wasn't arguing, wasn't even saying not to talk about her because she was right there. He nodded, kissing Morgan's hair, holding her again. "I know that, Sara," he told her gently.
"Please take her home for a while too. She hasn't slept."
"I think she wants to go home with you. Maybe she'll sleep then, if she knows that Nick and I are there to make sure you're both safe."
"Well, I'm going home today. Maybe you guys can go now and get the house ready?"
Morgan shook her head. "Yeah, c'mon, baby. It'll still be helping Sara. And Nick can take care of her, protect her." Still the answer was a firm no.
Sara was getting really worried. "Maybe we should call Ecklie."
Greg could just see her father's reaction and knew that wouldn't be helping Morgan. "She'll talk when she's ready. And at least she's been talking to you a little. That lets us know she can do it. For whatever reason, she doesn't want to. And that's fine. But I sure do miss talking with her." He hugged Morgan gently.
"At least I'm special then. She won't talk to anyone but me, so I must be special," grinned Sara.

"Really? I'd have thought you would say Morgan is special. She's your girlfriend after all."

"She already knows she's special." He teased.

"Good." Sara smiled at Morgan. "How about this? The boys can go and get the house ready, and you can drive me home then?"

He kissed Morgan's head. "Call me if you need me, okay?" He didn't expect a response anymore and didn't get one before he left.
