She realized she wasn't going to win and felt like she could cry.
"Please, just a couple of days."
"Does it make a difference what I say? Do I get a vote?"
"I want to say yes, but no, not this time. You can be angry with me if you want."
She got exceptionally quiet.
AJ stood and excused himself, going to Mac. "Can you go and sit with her?"
"Sure." She stood and walked away.
"She's not happy about it, is she?" Harm asked.
"No. I don't blame her."
"I don't either. Mac took it well, I guess, I'm still alive."
"Oh, surely the two girls will use the time to plan something horrible for us."
"Just the thought of that..." Mac wouldn't go for food or anything trivial like that either. She'd hit him where he lived.
"You can stay with me for a while."
"Not quite as fun...sir."
"But it is safe."
"You got your choice, sir. Grace or being safe."
"Grace is going to kill me."
"No, sir, I don't believe so. She'll be angry, make things interesting for awhile, but I don't think she'll kill you."
"You really believe that?"
"She loves you too much."
AJ smiled. "You must really love Mac to think she won't actually kill you."
"Oh, I didn't say Mac wouldn't. I said Grace." He grinned again.
"Well, I promise to try and protect you then."
