"Honey, it's not you. And Ali's my responsibility. I should have been doing what I'm doing all along."
"Okay, fair point, but Callen can look after her for a few hours so you can relax."
"That's my downfall. I know that Deeks can take care of you. I know Callen can take care of Ali. But when it comes down to it, I can't let go. Control freak, I guess."
"Well, you're gonna have to this weekend. You and I are going somewhere special. I cleared it with my doctor, he said I can go."
"That sounds great, Kens. If you're sure you're up to it."
"I'm fine. It's a relaxing weekend."
"Not sure I know how to do that anymore." She heard Ali awake in the other room and started to get up to get her before she reminded herself that Callen was able to do it.
Deeks came in just then. He smiled at Kensi and handed her a present. Then he handed her an envelope. "Is this what you wanted?" he asked.
"Thank you Deeks. Can you see if Callen has Ali?"
They heard Callen talking soothingly to his baby girl, but Deeks went anyway, knowing Kensi wanted some private time with KC.
Once he was gone, Kensi handed the envelope to KC. "Open it."
She opened it. "Kens." Her first thought was all the reasons why she couldn't do it, although it was exactly what she needed.
"We are going. I called and booked a room for us already, and they don't give money back. I spoke to Callen. He's going to look after Ali this weekend, with
Deeks' help if he needs it. Deeks is driving us up there on Friday morning, then picking us up Sunday afternoon."
"I guess I don't have an excuse anymore, do I?" She smiled though. "Thank you, Kens." Her voice broke.
Kensi pulled her friend to her and hugged her. "No problem. And you need to take time to relax every now and then."
"That's what G says."
"So it must be good advice then. You should listen."
"It's not easy. You'll learn." She knew that Kensi already had part of that.
"It doesn't mean you can't rely on Callen. I made Deeks promise to help out when I need a break."
Deeks, meanwhile, was sneaking out to get cronuts for everyone while the girls talked so they wouldn't try to cook.
"Callen, where did Deeks go?"
Callen appeared, having dressed Alina and himself in day clothes. "To get breakfast. He said he gave up trying to cook and didn't want either of you to do it."
"Of course he did."
"It's very sweet," KC said smiling, kissing Callen's cheek as she cradled Ali on her lap.
"Callen, KC agreed to go this weekend, okay."
"Awesome." He sat beside her, kissing her hair. "I'm proud of you, babe," he whispered, knowing how hard it was for her to let go of control over anything, especially Alina.
Kensi smiled and quietly slipped away.
Deeks let himself back in, surprised to see her there. "Hey, babe. Did you open yours?" He asked about the original present he'd given her.
"Not yet. I want them to have some time alone."
He nodded. "Cronut?"
"Yes please."
He got a cronut out for her and some fresh juice, her favorite.
"Thank you."
"If I go in there and get it, will you open it?"
"Yes."
He tried to go in as quietly as he could, get that one present, and come back. He had put it into a gift bag, afraid she would make out the tiny box. When Kensi took the present from him, she eagerly opened it.
She gasped, her face lighting up with a big smile. "YES! Yes!"
