Horatio, Calleigh, and Ryan arrived together at the crime scene. Calleigh had seen bloody crime scenes for years and this one turned her stomach. Ryan had promised Eric that he would look out for Calleigh at scenes if needed, but his attention today was on Lina, bent down next to one of the bodies. The kid was a teenager, only a few years older than her baby sister, only a few years younger than her little brother, and he had died one of the worst deaths she'd ever seen.
"Poor baby," she whispered.
"Lina? You all right?" Ryan asked softly. Horatio was standing nearby, in case she needed him.
"Yeah. He's just...young." She shook it off, moving on with what she needed to do next.
Ryan knew she was hurting more than she admitted so he stayed with her. She released the body and moved to the next one.
"Can I help?" Ryan asked.
"Don't you need to process?"
"They can. I want to help."
"I'm okay, Ryan."
"Please?"
Calleigh stepped outside by they could hear her throwing up as they saw the next victim, minus a brain that was all over. "Go check on her. Go help Dad."
"Are you sure you're okay?"
"Go."
"Call if you need me."
She smiled. "Good."
Ryan left reluctantly to check on Calleigh. The room caught on fire and Lina tried her best to protect the evidence, the bodies. Ryan ran back in, ignoring everyone yelling at him to stop. He found Lina and picked her up, carrying her out.
"No, wait, I'm not done yet..." She tried to argue.
"Doesn't matter. We can find something later."
Horatio was furious with his daughter and relieved, not sure how to put into words his gratitude to Ryan.
"She should get checked," coughed Ryan.
"You're both going to get checked." He cursed when he saw tv crews pulling up. "Calleigh, do me a favor. Call Eric and tell him we're okay, then Natalia. We're about to be on tv."
"Got it," said Calleigh, still pale from being sick.
Horatio handed his daughter and Ryan over to the medics before turning his attention back to Calleigh.
"I'm okay. I think I just need some water," Calleigh told him.
He got a bottle from his kit. "Sit down. There's nothing we can do right now anyway."

"Thank you." She drank some water. "Sorry about that."
"About what? It was a horrible scene."
"I've been to horrible scenes before H."
"This was different. We were all affected." His eyes followed his daughter with the medics.
"You should go with her."
"She's got Mr Wolfe with her. If they take her in, I'll go."
"Just go. You're her father."
"Did you reach Eric and Natalia?"
"Eric yes. Nat no."
"I should call her. How's Mari?"
"She's okay. The doctor gave her some medicine. Said she'll be okay in a couple of days."
He nodded, noticing that Lina was being loaded on the ambulance as they checked Ryan. "Go home, Calleigh. There's nothing we can do."
"Are you sure?"
"That was our only lead," he indicated the burning house. "And I'll be at the hospital."
"All right. Call if you need something, and let me know how she is."
"Get some rest."
"I will."
He walked her to the Hummer and then went to the ambulance.
Natalia hung up the phone, glad that Horatio was okay, but worried about Lina. She knew she needed to tell her daughter, but wasn't sure how.
"Was that Dad?" Kaya asked, running up to her mom with a sliding stop and a smile. "When's he coming home?"
"I don't know, baby. He's with Lina. She's..."
"Is she and Ryan coming over tonight?" She tried not to seem too excited, but it seemed like she hardly ever got to see her sister anymore.
"No. Lina and Ryan are at the hospital. They got caught in a fire, sweetheart. But I guess we could go there if you really want to see Lina."
"Can we? Please?"
"If you promise to be good. You have to be careful with them."
She thought about what her mother had said. "Is she really sick, Mom?"
"I think she just needs to be checked. Your dad didn't sound too worried."
She nodded, going to get a pair of Lina's pajamas that she kept at the house for babysitting nights, just in case she had to stay.
"Should we get a present?"
"Yeah. One for Ryan too."
"Okay. Then we should go." She hurried out with her mom.
Horatio was sitting with Lina, worried about her. They had already taken Ryan back, but a car wreck had arrived and Lina had gotten put off.
"Sweetheart, are you feeling all right still?" Horatio asked, ready to force her to a room to be treated if needed.
"My chest hurts." She admitted with a raspy voice.
"All right. Be right back." He got up and found a passing nurse. "My daughter needs a doctor right now. She's getting worse the longer she sits there and, if anything happens to her, I will hold all of you responsible."
"Dad." One of the people in the car had been impaled, much worse than a little smoke inhalation.
"No. I know what can happen from a little bit of smoke, I know the lasting medical issues, and I won't let that happen to you, Lina."
"Horatio," Alexx Woods heard her friend before she saw him. "What's going on?"
"Alexx, I need Lina to be checked properly. She's describing the same symptoms Calleigh had after that house fire when you treated her."
She looked at Lina and didn't like the pale look. "All right, baby. We'll get you back there. Just hang in. I'll be right back." She instructed the nurse to get a bottle of water for Lina as well after she coughed again.
"Alexx will help, honey. She's good at her job."
"Dad? Lina?" Kaya ran and hugged her sister, coughing slightly from the smoke on her clothes, worried when Lina coughed from the constriction.
"K, you need to be gentle, sweetie," said Horatio, easing her off Lina.
"You're okay, bug," Lina said, kissing her sister's forehead. "Where's Mom?"

"Okay." She knew Natalia wouldn't let Kaya out of her sight.
Horatio helped her sit up as Lina started coughing and couldn't stop.

"Lina? What's wrong? Mum said that you're sick, but she said it wasn't that bad."

She took sips from the water, trying to breathe again. "Sweetheart, she just breathed in a little smoke, but Alexx is going to make her better," Horatio tried to calm his younger daughter since he felt he could do nothing for his older.

Horatio looked away, tears in his eyes. "Just like Aunt Calleigh, sweetheart," Lina breathed.

"Please daddy? Please?"
"Honey, you don't want to be here at the hospital all night. It's not fun," Lina tried.
"But you're here."
"We'll see what your mom says," Horatio repeated. "I need you to do me a huge favor. One for Lina too."
"Anything daddy."
"When Aunt Alexx comes back to take care of Lina, I need to go check on Mr. Wolfe."
"Ryan, Dad," Lina corrected yet again.
"I want you to stay with her until your mom comes."
"I'm not leaving Lina," she promised.
"Good girl." He said and Lina smiled, holding her hand.
Alexx came back a moment later. "Hi Kaya."
"Alexx!" Kaya hugged her.
"I'm going to go check on Mr...Ryan," Horatio told her. "Natalia should be close but Kaya's going to stay with Lina. I'll be right back."
"Go. I've got them."
Horatio went in search of Ryan and Lina held Kaya's hand, talking to her softly, easily tired. Alexx went about checking Lina, having Kaya help. Lina coughed and wheezed, moving to where she could breathe more easily.
"Alexx, is she going to be okay?"
"She just got a little smoke in her lungs, baby." Alexx let Lina breathe into an oxygen mask for a little while.
"Promise?"
"Promise." Alexx answered as Lina squeezed Kaya's hand lightly.
"Like Aunt Calleigh did?"
"I don't know yet, sweetheart. That's what I need to see," Alexx tried to explain.
"Your mama's been in a fire too and she wasn't as bad as Aunt Calleigh."
"Mummy was hurt too?"
Lina gave Alexx a look and shook her head.
"Mummy got hurt at work before. It isn;t the first time."
"Where is Natalia?" Lina asked, removing the oxygen mask.
"She's coming. I told you that already Lina."
"I know that." She breathed some more. "I also know you're not allowed to run around anywhere by yourself, let alone a hospital."
"I swear she's coming. Mummy isn't that far away."
"Okay." She had her doubts and, if she'd been more aware, she would have known something was up. She'd never seen more protective parents than Horatio and Natalia, with good reason, but they could take it to the extreme.
Ten minutes later, Natalia finally arrived, a bag in her hand, and Lina's bag on her shoulder.
"Hey, Mom," Lina said softly, Alexx having fixed the oxygen through a tube in her nose so she could still talk. Kaya was laying on the bed by her side.
"Hey honey. How are you feeling?"
"Tired. A little worried about Dad and Ryan. He came back before I did. Dad was supposed to go check on him and he hasn't come back yet."
"I'm sure he's okay Lina. I can go see after I give you your stuff. K put your PJs in for you."
"There's a shower in there. When your breathing gets better, I'll let you go in there and wash the soot off. Then you can change," Alexx promised her.
"We got you something else. Kaya wanted to get you a present."
"A present?" She took the bag from Natalia.
"Kaya, I love it," she said, finding a teddy bear that looked like the one she'd given Kaya after her sister had been kidnapped.
"Really?"
"Of course."
"Yay. That's where mummy was, getting the present."
She smiled her thanks at Natalia.
"Was she good?" asked Nat.
