"I don't know Lina. I know she loves you, and she's a good girl, but this is a hospital."
"Mommy, please..."
"Natalia, who are you going to send her with? Dad needs someone with me, then Ryan's hurt, then Cal was there and is shaken so Eric's got his hands full there."
"Alright. She can stay."
"Yay!" Kaya grinned and Alexx suppressed a laugh, not hiding a smile. The two girls were like daughters to her.

Horatio found Ryan in a room, breathing oxygen from a mask.
"Lina."
"She's with Alexx. Are you alright?"
"Smoke."
"Sorry?"
"Smoke inhalation," the nurse nearby explained.
"How bad is it?"
"He needs to stay in tonight. We'll see in the morning, but he insists he needs to go check on 'Lina'."
"Lina's his girlfriend. Ryan, you aren't going anywhere."
"Lina," he insisted again.
"She's going to be okay too."

"Want Lina."
"I know that. But you both need to rest."
"I don't think he will until he sees her. I'm trying to see if there's a way we haven't thought of." The nurse seemed to truly sympathize, but was also at the age where she would still believe in true love conquering all.
"Can we put them in the same room?"
"I think that's what they're checking on."
"Okay."
Satisfied that Lina was in good hands with Natalia and Kaya, Alexx came to check on Ryan. She consulted the machines, the nurse, and the charts before leaving again.
"What did she say?"
"She's going to make sure they're placed in the same room, that Lina is worried about you and Ryan as well."
"Of course."

Less than ten minutes later, it was being done. Alexx stayed with Ryan while they moved him and then walked with the girls while Lina was being moved.
Both were relieved to see each other. "Lina, are you okay?"

She reached over to hold his hand, her other still around Kaya who had climbed back up. "Yeah," she breathed. "You?"

"I meant Kaya. I've learned not to ask the impossible from you," Natalia said, leaving the others, even Horatio, to wonder if she was serious or teasing. Her daughter's eyes were as big as saucers and she held on to her sister.

"She's right. How could they, without you knowing? And why would they? Your dad and I are right here. Alexx will take care of them too."

Kaya thought about it and then finally nodded, trusting them. She closed her eyes and was asleep instantly, still curled with her sister.
