Kensi took KC up the stairs to Ops. She had just finished showing her around the office and was taking her to where she was going to be working. KC was more nervous now than she ever was overseas. Deeks and Kensi had helped, of course, as had Callen that morning, but she hadn't met Nell or Eric yet and her meeting with Hetty had gone horribly. It was obvious that the woman didn't like being overridden by Granger and KC was caught in the middle.
"Relax, you'll be fine. Nell and Eric are going to love you."
"Like Hetty did?"
"Hetty just being stupid."
"Deeks has a problem with her, doesn't he?"
"Hetty? Yeah. He doesn't like the way she treated me when she sent me away."
"Callen likes her. That's another person important to him against me."
"He likes you more, trust me."
"I don't want him to have to make the choice."
"You don't get that say, unfortunately."
"Maybe not."
"Don't worry about that anyway. Time to meet your coworkers."
They walked into ops together and she couldn't help but smile, sensing a heart in Nell about like her own and Kensi's.
Nell was out of her seat in a flash. "You must be KC. Kensi has told us so much about you."
"She's told me about you too. It's nice to meet you." She smiled.
"We are going to be such good friends. And you can help me pick on Eric too."
"I'd like that. It's fun to help Kensi pick on Deeks," she teased.
Nell laughed. "It sure is."
KC smiled at Kensi.
"Told you you'd like them."
"I do."
"I'm gonna find Deeks. If you need me, call."
"Okay. I'll be fine." Nell showed her where she was to work, listening to tapes they'd gotten that no one had had time to translate yet.
Kensi stepped out of Ops, but stayed for a moment, just to make sure her friend really was alright. While KC would rather be in the field, she seemed content to listen to the tapes, closing her eyes, concentrating only on what she was hearing. After a few minutes, Kensi walked away, finding Deeks back at his desk again.
"How'd it go?" He asked softly.
"Good. She's happy up there, already friends with Nell."
"Good. I heard Hetty was her usual cheerful self."
"Who cares?"
"KC might."
"I think she does, but I'm going to fix that."
"I hope so. I like her. I think she's good for you, and for Callen."
"Of course she is, we're besties."
He smiled at this, but still felt like something was wrong, like he was missing something.
"You okay?"
"I just...I just have a funny feeling. Like I'm missing something."
"Like what?"
"Relax, you'll be fine. Nell and Eric are going to love you."
