Greg was enjoying his night out with Morgan. They were planning to go out to a movie after dinner at a restaurant. Everything was going wonderfully until a familiar face caught their attention. Both faces looked familiar to Morgan, David's mother and her father, on a date, much as she was with Greg. However there was a big difference; she hadn't found a way to tell him that she was dating Greg yet. In fact, only Hodges and Nick knew, their best friends.
"Hi, Morgan," said Ecklie. "What are you two doing here?"
"We went shopping for our Secret Santa today and we're going to a movie after," Morgan said honestly, hoping he would think they were just out as friends.
"Oh, good...Why are you having dinner then?" She started to make a smart ass remark about being hungry, but she looked at Greg and her father and just couldn't do it anymore.
Greg nodded and took a deep breath, feeling his face go red. "Morgan and I are dating, have been for a few months now."
"Around the time I got shot," she told her father gently, holding Greg's hand for mutual support.
Ecklie stared at them in shock. "Oh, uh, good. Continue then."
Morgan sat there in shock herself. "Night, Dad," she managed to say, smiling, but really couldn't believe her dad had taken it so well.
Greg was equally shocked. He had expected to be yelled at.
As Ecklie left, Morgan said, "Tell me we just got that lucky."
"I think so."

Nick settled on the bar stool, wishing Sara would let him help, but since he cooked most of the time, he knew she was trying to do something special for him now by not letting him in the kitchen. Sara hummed a tune as she worked, feeling a lot happier since she had started dating Nick. He had shown her what a real relationship was like and he was definitely the best thing that had happened to her. She was setting up the kitchen for dinner and stopped when she heard the door bell.
"Can you get that, Nick?" Sara called from the kitchen.
"Got it," he called at almost the same time, getting up and going to open the door. He was prepared for almost anyone but who he saw there.
"Hi, Nick, what are you doing in my house?" Grissom asked.
"Your house?" Nick's fist clenched as he tried to control the anger he felt. "I think it stopped being your house a year ago, when you filed for divorce by phone."
"It is under my name."
"What the hell are you doing here, Grissom? You haven't bothered to show up for anyone or anything in four years."
"Why I'm here is not your business. Where's Sara?"
"I am NOT going to let you hurt her again."
"Move!" Nick stood firm, but heard the door from the kitchen open.
"Nick, who is it?" asked Sara from the kitchen doorway.
"A traveling scientist. Definitely not a wise man though."
"Nick! Tell me the truth," laughed Sara.
"Sara." Grissom tried again to get past Nick, trying everything short of pushing him down.
"Grissom? What do you want?" Sara dropped the cloth in her hand and moved to stand near Nick.
"I heard about Nancy."
"What does that have to do with me?"
"I thought I could stay here."
"Why?"
"Because it's my home."
"Not anymore."
"I believe my name's still on the deed." Nick wanted to hit him. If Sara hadn't been there, he might have taken a swing.
"I don't care."
"Does he have to be here?" Grissom indicated Nick.
"You bet your ass I do," Nick said under his breath.
"Yes, he does. You left me and Nick was there to pick up the pieces."
If Grissom had been eating or drinking, it would have been spewed across the room.
"Problem?"
"Several." Grissom said, almost growling.
"I can't have a life?"
"Let me rephrase it. I'm staying here."
"Whatever. Nick, let's go." Sara turned away, feeling tears in her eyes.
"Pack a bag, peanut. I'll be right there." Nick smiled slightly for her, wanting to hold her, but wanting to take care of some unfinished business first.
Sara ran up the stairs, trying to hold back tears. She rushed around her bedroom, grabbing some clothes, although she had left some at Nick's place, and her phone. She could hear more arguing downstairs.
Nick hardly ever swore, but there were some words being yelled from Grissom to Nick and back to Grissom again. "You let down your entire team, Grissom. You weren't here when Catherine needed you; thank God she had Russell for that. Ecklie's more a member of this team now than you ever thought about being. You let Warrick down and got him killed. And forgetting all that, you screwed over and screwed up the best thing that you will ever have. Coming here for Jim's a little late to the party, a little late to start pretending you give a damn!"
"You will never have what I did! Sara doesn't love you...you're just the rebound!" He knew it wasn't true, but Grissom didn't care. "She isn't even worthy of love!"
Nick did what he'd wanted to do off and on for fifteen years, laid Grissom flat on his ass.
Sara came down the stairs and gasped at the sight before her. She had never seen Nick hit someone before and never wanted to again, although she did feel happy that he cared about her. "Nicky? Are you all right?" Sara asked gently.
"Are you ready, sweetheart?" Nick asked, turning from his former boss to his girlfriend.
"Yep. Let's go. He can have the place." Sara took Nick's shaking hand and led him out the door. "Want me to drive?"
He nodded. "Please." His hand hurt more than he wanted to admit.
Sara opened the car doors and got in, ready to go as soon as Nick was in the car.
They stopped by a drivethru he knew would have both vegetarian options as well as something he would eat, but from there went straight to his place.
"Hi, Morgan," said Ecklie. "What are you two doing here?"
"We went shopping for our Secret Santa today and we're going to a movie after," Morgan said honestly, hoping he would think they were just out as friends.
