KC helped Kensi get Wyatt's beach toys out of the car.
"Do you think he's going to like the sand?" Kensi asked her friend.
"He's Deeks' kid, right?" she teased.
"Yes." She smiled. "How are you doing?" Kensi asked as she got Wyatt out of the car.
"With what?"
"Work. I know it's an adjustment for you."
"If Sam would drop dead, it would be perfect."
Kensi grinned. "I can arrange that."
"Catch me tomorrow. I don't want to ruin our day, do I, bud?" She smiled at the baby.
"KC, wuv you." Wyatt reached out to her.
"Love you too, baby."
Kensi smiled. "Let's find somewhere to sit then." She carried Wyatt down to the sand.
KC toted the cargo down, ignoring the looks she was getting. Once they were seated, Kensi placed her son down on the blanket. He immediately reached for the toys. KC played with him in the sand.
Kensi watched on, smiling. "You look good with him."
"We're having fun."
"Do you and Callen want to take him tonight?"
"Callen probably has to work, but I can take him if you and Deeks need some grownup time."
"I'm good but he's been asking for aunty KC the last couple of days."
"Aw. I missed you too, buddy."
"Sleep over?"
"I'm more a sucker for you than I am for Uncle G," she said teasing. "Yeah, you can sleepover."
"KC, Cawen."
"No, Callen can't play tonight. He has to play with Sam," she made a face and watched him make one back.
"No Sam. Cawen."
"He has to work."
Wyatt's little face drooped but he smiled again a moment later when Kensi handed him a toy. Kc's attention was on him but at least half of the men on the beach were on her. It made her self conscious so she ignored it.
"You okay?" Kensi asked.
"I'm used to being a Marine. Not this." Even though she was wearing a one piece she was catching looks for her body as well as her piercing blue eyes and black hair that was finally growing out again.
"Hey, you are a woman, you need to get used to it. It stops being a bother after like, a day. I stopped noticing when Deeks and I got together."
"Yeah but you guys are here all the time. A beach is not Callen's thing."
"Make it your thing so he has to come. It's actually not that bad."
She nodded, wanting to focus on Wyatt.
"Tell me one thing. What do you want from Callen? Your relationship I mean?"
"He wants kids."
"What about you? It's not like you aren't good with them."
"I'd rather do what you did. Adopt one. Someday."
"Fair enough. There's no hurry."
"We'll see."
Kensi nodded.
"I get the feeling if I was pregnant tomorrow, he'd be thrilled."
"He can wait."

"What I want from Callen, I already have. It's so nice to have someone there. I mean, you're always there for me, but...I can't explain it."

"I'm not quite used to it yet."
"It won't be long and you will be."
"Aside from Gibbs and your dad, it's been years since I've had one to rely on, since my dad died."
"I know the feeling, which I think is why I was devastated when Dom died."
"Did you ever think, if he hadn't died, if Jack hadn't...if Jack hadn't done what he did, then you wouldn't have Deeks?"
"I try not to. I'm glad I have Deeks, and I guess, Dom didn't need to die for it to happen, I met Deeks when Dom was missing."
She felt uncomfortable again, like someone was watching them.
"What's wrong?"
"Just a bad feeling."
"What do you mean?" She looked around her.
"Like someone's watching."
"I can't see anyone."
"Maybe it's just my imagination."
"I doubt it."
"Really?" She looked at Kensi.
"I trust you. If you say someone's there, someone is."
"Thank you," she said softly.
"Of course."
She tried to relax, play with Wyatt, knowing he loved the beach as much as his dad did.
"Do you want to go somewhere else?"
"He's so happy."
"We can come another time."
"I don't want to spoil it for him. I'm okay."
"I don't want anyone to hurt you or him, so let's go. We can get some lunch."
Wyatt protested when Kensi picked him up.
"Sorry bud, lunch time."
"Yum yum?"
KC hid a smile. "Yum yum."
"Do you want to take some to Daddy and Uncle G?"
"Daddy! Cawen!"
"What do you think they want to eat?"
"Let's get them chinese."
"Chick?"
"You can get some chicken. And rice." KC told him.
Kensi grinned.
"Look at your mommy. She's happy."
"Mama."
He hugged Kensi and it was KC's turn to smile.
"Love you little guy."
"Love Mama."
"Love KC?
He blew kisses to KC and she laughed, having not seen that before. "Daddy must be teaching him early," she teased.
"Very early."
They went and got the food, deciding to wait to eat with the boys. Deeks was happy to see the girls and Wyatt. He took the baby from Kensi and cuddled him. Callen and KC found some place to get where they weren't intruding.
"How was the beach?"
"I kept...I kept thinking someone was watching us."
"Did you see anyone?"
"No, and Kens didn't either. It was just a feeling."
"I trust your feelings."
"I know the beach was crowded, I know I'm not used to being out of uniform yet, much less in a swimsuit, but...it was creepy, Callen. It made me feel cold. I don't know how to explain it."
"Don't worry. I'll take Deeks and we can go see if we can find anything."
"Thank you."
"Of course."
They talked about what he'd done that day as next door Deeks was asking Kensi the same question, how the beach was.
"It was great Deeks. He loves it, he didn't want to leave. But KC wasn't comfortable and I believe her."
"You loved it, bud? Daddy will have to take you and Mommy back another day." He turned his attention back to Kensi. "Believe her about what?"
"She said she felt like someone was watching."
"But you didn't see anyone?"
"No."
"What about after you left? Any tails?"
"Not that I noticed."
"I don't want to tell you what to do on your day off, but I wish that you would take KC and Wyatt home next."
"I was planning on it."
He nodded. "I'd feel better if I knew you guys were safe."
Kidnapping and shooting were real possibilities in their line of work. One time he had been shot after his morning run, in the convenience store he always frequented.
"We can stay here."
"You don't want to do that on your day off. Home's fine. At least you're somewhat protected there, more than on an open beach."
"Alright, but come home soon."
"Oh, absolutely." He kissed her gently.
"I love you."
"I love you too, Kensalina."
"We'll leave after lunch."
He played with his son, getting him to even eat some of his vegetables by pretending it was a racecar, watching his face light up. He never thought he could love two people as much as he loved Kensi and Wyatt. Wyatt giggled at Deeks, reaching for his dad. Deeks snuggled with him for a little while and then lifted him in the air lke a plane, making him laugh. Kensi watched on in delight. Wyatt grabbed both sides of Deeks' cheeks, holding on gently.
"Wyatt, that's not nice." But Kensi couldn't help smiling.
Deeks lowered him and Wyatt let go. "Are you going to have fun with Mommy and Aunt KC?"
"KC." Wyatt smiled. "Sweep over!"
"No, bud, I think KC has to sleep over with Uncle G."
"KC is taking him tonight," said Kensi."
"Oh. Okay, if that's okay with her and Mommy, that's okay with me."
"I have a surprise for daddy tonight."
"Is that right?"
"Yes."
Callen knocked on the door.
"Hey, how's KC?"
Wyatt grinned. "Cawen!"
"Scared and hating herself for it. Did you tell Deeks?"
"Yes. I should check on her."
"Actually, I was hoping you could take her home so that Deeks and I could go check things out."
"Sure. But after lunch."
"If you can get her to eat..."
"I will." She left.
"Hey, little man," Callen said to Wyatt, but his smile didn't meet his eyes.
"Cawen sweep over?"
"Seems the girls promised that he could sleep at your place." Deeks explained when he looked confused.
"Maybe that'll help KC calm down some."
"Cawen sleep too?"
"Yeah, bud. Callen sleep too." Callen said, still looking worried, stealing glances in the direction Kensi had gone.
"No Sam?"
"Sam sleeps over with Kam and Michelle." Deeks reminded him.
"Yay! Cawen and KC!"
"Maybe I should check on them..."
"Leave them for now."
Callen nodded. ********* Kensi found her friend. "You hungry?"
She shook her head. "Not really."
"Want to go hone?"
"Okay."
Kensi put her arm around her. "Let's get Wyatt and go."
"Did you eat?"
"Yeah."
"Okay."
"You alright?"
"I'm fine."
"Why don't I believe that?"
"Even if someone WAS watching, we left them at the beach. What could be wrong?"
"You don't believe that. You can tell me the truth, I believe you."
"Can we go home?"
"Of course."
They picked Wyatt up from the boys, KC holding him, hugging him. If anyone but the two women tried to take him from his dad, he would have had a fit, but he adored his mommy and his aunt.
"Home time buddy."
"Puppy." It was what he called Monty.
"Yeah, Monty is waiting."
He clapped his hands, riding on KC's shoulders, waving at Hetty who was within eyeshot. No one was more surprised than Hetty when she smiled and waved back. ********* Kensi got Wyatt out at home, handing him to KC.
He pulled KC to where Monty was waiting. "Hi, puppy." He told the dog, missing the fact that his aunt was trying her best not to smile.
The dog barked, licking the child's face. KC could hear Kensi groan and watched Wyatt start playing in the dirt.
"Puppy!"
Monty cocked his head as if he was trying to understand what Wyatt wanted him to do.
"Puppy, come!"
Monty followed him around.
"Puppy play."
"You have to show him, sweetheart," KC told him gently.
Wyatt sat down, rolling in the grass. Monty followed suit and both women laughed.
"Are you sure you can take him tonight?"
"We love having him."
"If you change your mind let me know, even if it's late. It doesn't bother us."
"Honey, he's fine."
"I know. He's a handful at bedtime though."
"Mom. Stop worrying."
"Can't." She laughed though.

"Aunt KC and Uncle Callen's got this. Don't we, bud?"
"KC!"
She hugged him.
"Wuv you."
"I love you too, buddy."
"Play?"
"Of course. What do you want me to play?"
"Peek-a-boo."
She played peek a boo wth him, laughing.
"Mummy play too."
"Here. You and Mommy play for a little while."
"Mummy."
KC moved out of the way, looking around at the yard.
"You alright?"
"Yeah," she said, but left a smidgen of doubt.
"Do you want to do something?"
"I'm fine, Kens. Play."
"Okay."
She saw a car across the road that she knew she'd seen before.
"KC, come and play again."
"He wants to play with you, honey. I'm fine."
"Come on."
She got tired of arguing and went to sit with them.
"Tell me what's wrong."
"Nothing's wrong, Kens. Why are you still worrying?"
"Cause you are."
"I said I was fine."
"You aren't acting like it."
"Kens." Her tone was sharper than she'd wanted and she wouldn't let herself go further because of Wyatt.
"I just want to help."
"I know you do."
"So let me."
She looked up and saw the vehicle gone. "It's nothing. I promise."
"Alright," sighed Kensi.
They played with Monty and Wyatt for the rest of the afternoon. "I've got to go shopping for dinner. If you want to get Wyatt's stuff ready and bring him off, I'll make pizzas."
"Sure." Kensi took Wyatt inside for a bath.
KC left, letting Callen know what they'd decided and grocery shopping. Kensi finished bathing Wyatt and dressed him, calling Deeks as she did.
"Hey, babe." He said, picking up.
"Are you on the way home yet?"
"Yeah. Why? Need something?"
"I'm going to take Wyatt to Callen's place in a few minutes."
"I thought KC was with you guys."
"She went to do some shopping."
"Okay....."
"Is something wrong?"
"No, darlin', I just think that's odd. It's not like KC."
"Well, she doesn't usually shut me out but she did."
"Maybe Callen can figure something out."
"Maybe."
"Where do you want me to meet you?"
"At home."
"Okay. And we don't need anything?"
"No."

"Love you my sweet guy." She cuddled him and kissed him.
Callen had cautioned KC never to leave the door unlocked, but she knew that Kensi usually had her hands full with Wyatt and that she would be there at any time. She heard the door open and called, "In here" before she felt someone grab her. Kensi was just pulling up when she heard a scream. She grabbed Wyatt and ran in, phone already at her ear calling Callen.
There were sounds of things breaking and then a gunshot.
Kensi stopped dead, scared for Wyatt's safety. "Pick up Callen!" Exclaimed Kensi.
"Kens?" Callen finally answered.
"Hurry, KC's in danger. I think she's hurt."
"Where?"
A man ran out of the house, dressed all in black, and pulled out, almost hitting Kensi's car on the way.
"At her place." Kensi ran forward and found her friend. "Get an ambulance."
Deeks could hear Wyatt crying through Callen's phone. Both men ran out, Deeks calling an ambulance on the way.
"KC! Please be okay, answer me," cried Kensi.
"Hurts..."
"It's okay. Help is coming."
She tried to sit up and gave a low pain-filled groan.
"Stay still. Kensi pushed on the wound with her free hand.
"It's okay, bud. Aunt KC's okay."
Wyatt continued crying, clinging to Kensi but reaching for KC.
KC sat up, biting her lip. "C'mere. It's okay."
Wyatt crawled over. "Sick, KC sick," he whimpered.
"Not sick. Just owie." She held him, not letting Kensi see her face for fear of her seeing how much she was hurting. "I'm not shot, Kens. He just knocked the...out of me."
"You're hurt, and I can't help."
"We'll talk about it when Uncle Callen and Daddy get here."
Kensi say down, holding her friend's hand. By the time the guys got there, KC was almost asleep, Wyatt still curled against her. Kensi ran into Deeks' arms, crying.
"Darlin, what happened? Are you and Wyatt okay?" He checked her over.
"KC... Gunshot.... Help her."
Callen ran inside. "Buddy, can you get off Aunt KC for me? Daddy's outside."
Wyatt shook his head and reached for Callen.
Callen lifted him off KC. "Go see your daddy."
Wyatt cried more as he toddled out to his dad.
"I'm not shot," KC sad again.
"What happened?"
"He grabbed me. I shot him."
"Did it hit him?"
"Shoulder."
"Good, that'll teach him."
She heard Kensi and Wyatt crying outside and tried to get up, biting back a pain-filled scream.
"Stay still. What's hurt?"
Her stomach had a large bruise already forming and it looked like her ribs were, at best, bruised as well.
"Let's get you to a doctor."
"Kens."
"Deeks has her."
The ambulance finally arrived and Wyatt stopped crying, fascinated. Kensi smiled sadly as Wyatt reached for the ambulance. Deeks directed them where to go, trying to scoop Wyatt up so he wouldn't go wandering as he had a habit to do when he saw something he liked. The medics went inside to where Callen had KC sitting.
They made her go to the hospital to make sure that she didn't have broken bones or internal injuries.
"Is she okay?" Kensi asked Callen.
"She's got a bad bruise on her stomach about the size of a fist and some damaged ribs. They're taking her to make sure it's not more than that, but she wasn't shot, Kens. She's more worried about you and Wyatt right now."
"I want to follow her."
"Good. I was hoping you'd say that. We'll meet you there." He had more questions, but was more interested in getting her to the hospital.
Kensi ran for her car, speeding after the ambulance.
Deeks elected to take Wyatt home, knowing Kensi could call if he was needed, not really wanting to take the overactive toddler to the hospital. Callen was waiting for Kens when they arrived, worried and trying to hide it.
"Where's KC?"
"X-rays. Hopefully they'll see what they need to there, else they'll take her for an MRI."
"Kensi, what happened?"
"I don't know. I was just supposed to drop Wyatt off."
"Did you get a good look at the guy? Did she say anything?"
"I didn't see him. She won't tell me anything."
"She shot him," Callen said with a hint of pride.
"Good."
The doctor came out to Callen and they talked for a little while before Callen thanked him and returned to Kensi. "She's got some deep bruising in her stomach, but nothing that won't heal. She's got two cracked ribs and a slight concussion, but they're sending her home. She doesn't want to stay."
"I don't blame her."
"You want to come with me to see her?"
"Yes."
He walked with her to KC's room where she was already sitting up.
"Are you okay?" Kensi asked, wanting to hug her.
"Kens." She hugged Kensi, despite the pain.
"Are you alright?" she asked again.
"I want to go home."
"Let's go. I'll drive you there myself."
Callen looked relieved as he helped KC into the wheelchair, amidst protests that she didn't need one. Kensi pushed the chair along, then allowed Callen to help KC into the car.
He let her sit up front with Kensi, sitting in the back. "Where's Deeks and Wyatt?" KC asked.
"Home."
"Is he okay?"
"He wants you."
