KC finally managed to 'rescue' her godson from Michelle, cradling him in his arms, talking to him as he babbled back to her. Callen watched over her shoulder, smiling at the little boy.
Deeks studied his partner, mock frowning at her. "Don't. Don't go there, Kens. Never ends well."
"What? I wasn't going to say anythng." The look on her face said otherwise.
"No, you never do," he teased her. "At least don't say it with the others here. Sam's still kinda pissed about Joelle."
"Bad luck. I met her once and didn't like her. I don't know how they managed a relationship."
"Could it be you didn't like her because she wasn't KC?" He teased again. He had to admit that Callen and KC were both happier, more relaxed, around each other and, despite the fact that he'd never seen KC around a kid besides Wyatt, she was great with kids.
"Maybe, but it wasn't just that. I didn't like that she was always trying to change Callen. There's nothing wrong with him."
"You want to watch the burgers or bring everything out?" He changed the subject.
"I'll get everything out. Maybe KC will help me." He groaned, rolling his eyes, but went back to the grill.
"Hey, KC, can you help with something?"
"Sure." She handed the little boy to Callen and walked inside with her friend.
"You enjoying playing with him?"
"Wyatt? Of course I love playing with him. You know that."
"Want to take him tonight?"
"I can." She had plans, but didn't want Kensi making anything out of them.
"Are you busy?"
"Nothing I can't get out of."
"You are busy. Don't worry, you can have Wyatt tomorrow then."
"Kens, we can take him tonight if you and Deeks need some adult time...well, tall people time, I don't know if Deeks can be considered an adult," she teased about her 'brother'.
"He's an adult. Don't worry about that." She grinned. "And we're fine. Who's we?" she added.
She muttered under her breath. "G and I are just going to hang out later. Kens, please don't make a thing." Kensi couldn't help the smile, but she didn't say anything. "You've been busy with the family, Sam's busy with his family, G and I have been hanging out a lot, especially since he broke up with Joelle."
"Good. You two needed to spend time together."
"And what's that mean?" She asked, waiting for the matchmaking to start.
"Nothing."
She loaded a tray with chips and cookies. "We don't mind taking Wyatt tonight."
"No, Deeks and I are good. Enjoy your alone tme, cause trust me, with Wyatt, you won't get any time to talk or sit down or anything."
"I've watched him before, Kens. And maybe that way you and I can do something tomorrow."
"Mom has him tomorrow during the day, so we can still do somethng."
"Deeks won't mind?" It had been a long tme since they'd had a day alone for girl things, no Deeks, no Wyatt.
"Of course not. He and Eric are going surfing."
She heard Callen's voice as he came to check on them. "In here."
"Sorry. I'll let you guys talk." She gathered up everything that they needed and left.
She saw his puzzled look. "Don't ask. We're okay." She knew he got worried if he hadn't seen or heard from her in awhile. "Are you?"
"Yeah, Wyatt was getting restless. I guess he prefers Aunt KC."
"I'm surprised Nell or Michelle didn't steal him back. Sam's almost as bad." She took the little boy and got a baby hug in response.
"He was pretty clear on who he wanted."
She winced. "You're vocal like your parents, aren't you, sweetheart?" She kissed his forehead as he laughed like he understood her.
"KC."
"Wyatt." She responded, carrying him back outside, not noticing how she and Callen looked like the ones that were a couple.
"Luv you."
"I love you too," she said as they joined the others. She saw Sam visibly tense.
Wyatt grinned at her as he snuggled in. Callen smiled at the two of them, not noticing Sam's look. Michelle put her hand gently on her husband's arm.
"What?" he asked.
"Leave them alone," she whispered where only he could hear. Deeks interrupted by putting the food on the picnic table; everyone gathering around to eat.
"Do you want to see if we can take Wyatt tonight?" Callen whispered to her.
"I tried a couple of times. I can try again. She thinks he'll be interrupting."
"Will he?"
"I think it will be okay."
"Do you want to take him?"
"I love spending time with him, but I like spending time with you as well. Question is, do you want to take him?"
Deeks studied his partner, mock frowning at her. "Don't. Don't go there, Kens. Never ends well."
