Kensi Blye walked up to the door at headquarters and frowned. Something had caught her eye and it didn't seem right.
"Kens?" KC studied her friend. "You okay?"
"Just a sec. I want to check something." She backtracked a few steps and looked around the side of a dumpster.
A little boy smiled up at her.
"Oh, my God!"
"Kens?!?" KC moved quickly to her friend, frightened at first. It was one of Kensi's first days back from work after Afghanistan and she, as well as Deeks, was worried about her.
"I'm okay, KC." Kensi bent down and, when she stood again, she was holding a tiny bundle in her arms.
"What the hell?" She asked, shocked. She took off her leather jacket to protect the baby from the early morning chill.
"He's so little, KC. Who would do such a thing?"
"I don't know, honey. We need to get him inside. I wonder how long he's been in here." She opened the heavy wooden door and kept it open until Kensi carried the baby through.
"Callen, Deeks!" called Kensi.
"Kens?" Deeks heard his partner up in ops and ran out and down the stairs, frightened as KC had been.
"I'm all right, guys." She knew they were still worried about her. "Look."
Callen and Sam came running out of the gym. KC made a sound like someone pouring hydrogen peroxide on an open wound when she saw Callen before turning her attention back to KC and the baby.

"He was in a dumpster outside."

KC pulled her attention back to her friend and the baby. "Kens..." Deeks said in a cautionary tone.

"What?" she asked innocently as she made funny faces for the baby.

"I'm pretty sure Monty would think he was a chew toy."

"Yeah right, Monty is a huge softy like his owner."

"He's not a stray puppy. You can't just pick him up and take him home."

"I know, but he can't stay out there on his own either."

"He could always stay with me until we find his parents," KC volunteered, sensing Kensi needed to be close to the boy.

Kensi's eyes lit up a little at not having to put the baby in child services.

Deeks groaned. It was the most interest Kensi had shown in ANYTHING since she'd been back. "It's not necessary..." He said finally. "He'll stay with us."

Kensi lit up even more. "You mean it?" she asked, excitement coursing through her.

"Just promise me you won't get too attached. We're gonna hang on to him until he finds a safe place to live with someone who cares about him, Kens. That's ALL."

"I know." She grinned at the baby.

Inwardly he groaned, but had to admit that the kid was growing on him too.
