KC was exhausted from the past week's events. She was ready to get home, not only to her baby girl, but to her best friends as well. She answered her cell phone, smiling.
"Hey."
"Hi. How are you?"
"Ready to get home. You?"
"I miss you."
She smiled. "I miss you too." She paused. "I'm going to spend tomorrow night with Kens and Sarah, but I could invite Deeks if you want so you can come too..."
"No, we can do something the next day."
"That might be better." Harder to explain, but better. She didn't want to share her girls' night, but she didn't want Kensi and Deeks gawking at them either. "Are you sure you'll be free?"
"I'll be free."
"G, I..."
"What?"
All he heard was the sound of metal crashing.
"KC!"
She made a sound that was half cry, half moan, obviously pain.
"KC, what happened?"
"G." Her mind tried to register. "Can't..."
"Breathe. I'm getting help."
"Wanna go home."
"I'm getting someone to you."

Deeks groaned as he saw his cell phone light up. Kensi's didn't go off, but Hetty was giving her a little extra leeway since they were babysitting. When he came back, he looked upset as he searched for a way to tell her.
"Who was that?"
"That was Sam." He appreciated the fact that Sam had extended the courtesy for Callen and Kensi's sake, even if he didn't like KC.
"What's up?"
"Babe...KC was in an accident. She was awake and talking after, so they think she's okay, but we need to take Sarah to Michelle and go up there."
Kensi paled and hugged Sarah to her. "When?"
"About two hours ago." He held her hand in between his. "Do you just want to go on to the hospital, have Michelle meet us there to pick her up? Or swing by on the way?"
"Sarah needs her mother."
"Babe, she can't go up there. She's too little. We'll let her see her later, I promise."
"I won't leave her."
"Do you want to stay with Michelle? I need to go help Sam and I don't want you by yourself. I'd rather you were up at the hospital with Callen, but if you want to stay with Sarah..."
"Does KC need me?"
"Probably. Callen said she was pretty scared."
"Then I guess I can go."
"Okay." He packed Sarah's bag and grabbed Kensi's.
"Come, baby girl, we're going for a ride."
Callen was pacing when they arrived, looking worried and frustrated. "Callen!"
He stopped, turning towards them. "Kens." He looked at Sarah, wanting to hold her, but not sure Kensi was going to give her up. "She's still with the doctors."
"What happened?" She was still cuddling up to Sarah.
"I don't know. All I heard was metal crashing. She couldn't tell me. She just...just kept saying she wanted to go home." He paused. "Can I hold Sarah? Just...just for a minute?"
Kensi hesitated. She trusted him, but was scared to let go.
Deeks put his hand on Kensi's back. "He'll give her right back, babe." She had held the little girl like a security blanket since he'd told her.
Callen shook his head. "It's fine." If he was Kensi, he wouldn't trust him with the baby either.
"Protect her. She's precious," said Kensi as she handed Sarah over.
Callen cradled Sarah, kissing her tiny head, rubbing her back, feeling her snuggle against him. His eyes watered.
"She likes you." He hugged her and handed her back over, gently.
"You can hold her."
He took her back gently. "What's taking so long?"
"I want my friend."
"I'll call Hetty. Maybe she has some strings she can pull." Deeks kissed Kensi's temple, going outside to use his cell phone.
"Poor KC. She's going to be so scared alone."
"She was so scared, Kens. She kept saying she couldn't feel anything, couldn't move, that she wanted to go home..."
"We need to help her."
"How?"
"I don't know."
"She was so excited about your girls' night tomorrow."
"How do you know?"
"She told me." He told her, knowing she was going to find out eventually. "We...we were on the phone when it happened. I heard...I heard the metal. She sounded like she was hurting so bad. So scared." It was the closest to broken she'd seen him.
"Then we need to find her and go to her."
He looked up. "Kens, the doctors are with her." He was beginning to worry about her too.
"So? She's alone. If it was me, I'd want KC and Deeks."
"So we can't go back there. Or maybe you can. They...they blame me. Hell, I blame me."
"No. It is not your fault."
"They think it was because she was on the phone. If she hadn't been on the phone, she wouldn't have had the wreck. She was on the phone with me."
"They don't know that for sure. KC is one of the most careful drivers I have ever seen."
"It's what they're listing in their report. All they needed to hear."
"I'll tell Hetty. She can fix it."
"Sam was at headquarters. He was going to look into it, if they'll let him. We don't have any pull on this."
"Deeks does. He's still LAPD."
"Deeks does what?" He asked, his arm around her. "Hetty's making calls. We should know at any time."
"Hey."
"Hi. How are you?"
"Ready to get home. You?"
"I miss you."
She smiled. "I miss you too." She paused. "I'm going to spend tomorrow night with Kens and Sarah, but I could invite Deeks if you want so you can come too..."
