KC could feel the rope burning into her wrists, but kept moving, trying to get free, to get to her knife. Kensi struggled against her bonds and finally felt the rope break. Her hands were free and she quickly freed her legs. She took her knife out and freed her friend.
"Stand on my shoulders." She whispered, looking at the air vent in the carpet. If she stood on a chair and Kensi climbed up, they could get out.
Kensi climbed onto KC's shoulders and held on while she climbed onto a chair. She took the air vent and gently lay it down beside the chair, pushing Kensi up, letting her friend pull her up, trying to make absolutely no noise. Kensi pushed herself backwards so that KC had room and then started crawling slowly through. Once they landed in the open field, the girls started running until they thought they were safe. They had no phones and didn't know where they were.
"KC, look," said Kensi, pointing to a house in the distance. "If we keep running, we can get there and call for help."
"It's better than being out in the open." God only knew what would happen if their kidnappers found them. Something told her if that happened, being held against her will would be the least of her worries.
"It's our only option."
The girls started running again until they were exahusted, until their bodies hurt. Kensi dropped to the ground, breathing heavily. But when she looked up, she smiled. They had reached the house she had seen, and there were cars in the driveway. KC was relieved to find that they were only to eager to help.
"Can we use the phone?" asked Kensi.
They took the girls to the phone while one of them got them something to drink. Kensi dialed Deeks' mobile number and waited impatiently for him to answer.
Deeks was showing the effects of a weekend with no sleep. He'd had a bad feeling when Kensi had first started talking about this girls' camping trip and it had only gotten worse when she'd never called him and told him she'd arrived. "Deeks."
"Hey, it's me. We need your help."
"Kens?" Callen's head popped up. "Where are you?"
"Good question. Can you trace this call?"
He nodded, making motions to Nell who immediately put a trace on Deeks' cell phone. "Another good question. Are you hurt?"
"Bruised a little. That's it."
"What about KC?"
"Same."
"Nell's tracing the call now. Callen and I will come as soon as we have a location. Just hang in there for me, babe."
"Hurry."
He cursed as he lost the call. "Nell, we got it?"
"Yes."
*******
Deeks went past the place where the girls' car had hit the tree, crumpled in the back and front, it was a miracle they'd survived. Callen pointed out KC's cabin, and told Deeks that it was past there. Deeks nodded, keeping his eyes peeled, finally finding the address. He parked but left the door open as he hurried to the house. The door opened and Deeks couldn't help but hold his partner, not caring what anyone thought. He looked at Kensi, trying to make sure she was right, it was just minor injuries, and then held her again.
"Love you," he whispered.
"Love you too. Can we go now?"
Deeks nodded, thanking the couple who had taken them in. "We'll go to the cabin. Let you two get changed and cleaned up."
"Okay. Thank you for all of your help."
Deeks thanked them again and led Kensi back to the car, KC sitting in the back with Callen.
"Thanks for coming guys."
Deeks reached to hold her hand, squeezing it gently. Callen put his arm around KC and kissed her. She lay her head against him, closing her eyes, just for a second.
"Are you alright KC?"
"Yeah." She sat back up, opening her eyes again.
"Good. I don't want you hurt."
She looked up at him and saw the worry in his eyes. "I'm okay."
Callen hugged her again, just to reassure himself that she really was okay. Deeks parked by the cabin, his hand on his gun as he watched the girls go in. Kensi immediately went to the bedroom she always claimed for herself and changed her clothes. KC went to her room, her bathroom, and showered, letting the warm water ease her sore muscles. Callen went inside and started cooking, knowing where everything was since he had been there many times before. Deeks couldn't help but check out the cabin and surrounding area, wanting to know for himself that the girls were safe, at least for the moment.
"Come and have some lunch Deeks," called Callen.
Deeks appeared, "What can I do to help?"
"I'm done. Can you see if Kens is done?"
"Yeah." He went to check on his partner.
Callen put the food on the table then went to check on KC. She was just getting out of the shower and jumped, startled, when she saw him there.
"Sorry, didn't mean to scare you."
"You didn't." She dressed. "Is everything okay?"
"Yeah, I was coming to see if you were done. Lunch is ready."
"Is Kens okay?"
"Deeks is checking on her."
She nodded, pushing aside some wet hair. "How did everything go so wrong?"
"I don't know honey, but we'll figure it out."
"Stand on my shoulders." She whispered, looking at the air vent in the carpet. If she stood on a chair and Kensi climbed up, they could get out.
