"I missed you."

"I missed you too."

"Is Ryan okay?"

"Not right now, but he will be."

"I'm scared."

"You want to know a secret?" She paused. "I am too."

"We have to help him."

"Well, there's nothing we can do right now, honey. Alexx is taking good care of him."

"Why Ryan?"

"Who else would you have had it be, sweetheart?"

"Me..." she whispered.

"Oh, K," she said, pulling her sister into a real hug. "I wouldn't have. Not for a million, trillion dollars. No one would have, especially Ryan."

"It's not fair."

"You're right. It's not. Life isn't always fair. I'm just sad you had to learn it this early." Then again, her grandmother had died before she was Kaya's age and Kyle had always had to deal with Julia's illness. She just never wanted Kaya to have the hard growing up they had; she was the baby.

"But I want to fix it."

"You can't, sweetheart. No one can. It happened. All we can do from here is move on. Help Ryan move on. He's very lucky though that he, we, have such a good family, right?"

"Right."

She could feel Ryan stirring and looked over.

"I can hear Kay."

"Yeah, babe. She's worried for you."

"I love her. She's so sweet."

"She loves you too. You need anything?"

"Kay's hug."

"It's all right, sweetheart," she whispered to Kaya encouragingly.

"Ryan? I missed you."

Lina stood, slipping outside to their parents.

"I missed you too, K," He said, hugging her gently. "Lina's right, you know...I wouldn't trade places with you, or with her, and have you here for anything in the world. You know that, right?"

"But you shouldn't be hurt."

"No, I shouldn't be, but I'm going to be all right. I need a huge favor."

"Anything."

"Take care of Lina for me. As much as she loves your parents, I think you're the only person she's going to listen to right now."

"Why?"

"Cause she's scared. Like you." And stubborn, he wanted to add.

"I can help."

"Thank you, sweetheart."

"Get better."

"I will." He smiled when Lina came back in with Natalia and Horatio.

"Kay, time to let Ryan rest honey," said Natalia.

"H, do you mind staying with me?" Ryan asked his boss.

"Sure."

"What's wrong with me staying with you?" Lina asked.

"You need rest," said Natalia.

Lina looked around and saw not one person in the room on her side.

"Lina, come stay over with me?" Kaya asked.

Lina finally nodded. "For a little while."

Kaya knew her sister was afraid. "Lina, Ryan promised he would be okay if you come home tonight."

"You can sleep in my room."

"Yay."

"Bye."

Kaya gave up the front seat to let Lina take it on the way home.

"Chinese," said Kaya, knowing that it was Lina's favourite when they had sleepovers.
