"Just, I guess I want you to realise you aren't invincible."

"We need to take him," one of the medics said.
"Are you coming?"

"We'll meet you there," Morgan told Sara, holding Nick's hand. "It'll be okay."

"Thank you Morgan," said Sara.
Morgan nodded as they watched the ambulance pull away. "I'll go get D.B. and meet you there," Finn told her.
"Okay. Hey, Finn?"
"Yeah?" She asked, turning back to face them again.
"You've been doing this longer than I have. How do you do it?"
"Do what?" Finn asked, confused.
"Nothing. It doesn't matter." Morgan tried to look away, even though she knew it was no use. Finn wouldn't let her get away with not telling her now. Either she would wait until later or she would push now.
She looked at Greg and then looked at Morgan. Somehow she got what Morgan had been trying to say. They'd all been through hell that year, but Morgan seemed to have gotten the worst of it. Hers wasn't a simple shooting and recovery, but by someone she'd trusted, the daughter of someone they considered family. "Hey, I'll see you at the hospital, okay?"
Morgan nodded. "Thank you." She turned to Greg. "Let's go. Sara needs us."
Greg waited until Finn pulled out before kissing Morgan's head, hugging her close for a moment before getting in the driver's side.

Finn got out of her car at the lab and walked in, knowing her friend would be in his office. She knocked on the door and stepped in, not waiting for permission. In her mind, this incident required urgency, not patience. "He DB, how was your flight?" she asked to be polite. There was a sense of urgency in her voice.
Russell stood, glad to see Finn. He trusted her to take care of things while he was gone and knew she'd done all she could. "Hey, Jules." He looked worried, stressed. "How is he? How's Sara?" He was already walking out with her.
"Nick's fine. The medics took him to the hospital to get his shoulder checked. Sara, on the other hand, is so worried right now. She won't let him out of her sight and she seems like anything that isn't about Nick right now would push her over the edge."
"She's scared of losing him." It was one thing Russell had always worried about, having them both on the same shift, but he knew Sara's rapport with the team was too good to move her and he hadn't brought himself to think about moving Nick.
"I don't understand it, you know? She seems like she has nobody but the team in her life. Have you ever noticed that?" Finn had no clue as to Sara's past.
"Not at all like a girl I know who has nothing outside the lab but a string of BAD decisions."
"This isn't funny or a joke. I'm serious DB."
"I'm serious too, Finn. I've always been serious, but you've never bothered to listen to me before you do any of the bad decisions."
Finn sighed. "Where is her family? Surely they could help her calm down a little?"
"Her mother has schizophrenia. Her father is dead. No one knows where her brother is, not even her. And she doesn't speak to her ex-husband, who was also her former boss."
"What?" Finn said in surprise. "I'm sorry I brought it up. Poor thing, no wonder she sticks to Nick and Greg so much."
"It's why she was so scared when you were missing. Jules, all of us make a family at work, even me. Sara's just unlucky enough that it's all she has. Especially in times like these." He paused. "I wonder if I should call Catherine."
"Who?"
"The girl you replaced. Greg, Nick, Sara, they've lost a lot. Had a CSI die in Grissom's arms, had Grissom leave, and then Catherine had to go too. Now Brass."
"Oh. Get Catherine back. I'll pick Brass up on the way to the hospital."
"Okay. Finn?"
"Yeah?"
"You know I only said that about decisions because I care. Right?"
"Yes."
He nodded, walking out, calling Catherine on the way.
Catherine pulled her phone from her pocket and answered it. "Hello?"
"Catherine, it's D.B." He took a deep breath and slowly let it out. "I think we need your help."
"What happened?"
"Nick was shot. I haven't gotten to the hospital yet, I was out of town, but it's just his shoulder. I'm not worried about him as much as I am Sara."
"Is Sara hurt too?"
"No." He paused. "They're dating. They have been for over a year. He was shot and then he was missing and I'm worried about her." He realized she might not even know about the divorce. "Just trust me, okay? It's not good."
"I'm coming now. I'll be there in a few hours. Russell? Until I get there, try this to calm her. Take her away from Nicky and get her outside. If they're at Desert Palms, there's a little garden that Sara did some gardening at when she was hurt. She loved it."
"Okay, Cath. Thanks." Somehow he felt relieved.
"You're welcome."
Ecklie barely pulled to a park in front of the CSI lab before he got out and ran for the door, changing direction when he saw Russell. "Heard CSI shot," was all he could get out.
"Nick's fine. It's just a shoulder wound. We're heading to he hospital now."
Ecklie nodded, a look of relief crossing his face that it wasn't Morgan or Greg, knowing his daughter's feelings about the CSI, but he was worried enough about Nick and Sara to go with Russell.

"Catherine is coming down to be with Sara. Hopefully she'll help calm her down."

"Maybe." There had been times though that it had been the complete opposite.

"Agreed. Only, I'm not sure if Catherine knows about Grissom and Sara or not and I don't think I should tell her."

"Agreed. It should come from Sara, what and how much she wants to tell."
