"She told me that I couldn't let anything happen to Morgan just so I could have my daughter back."
(Does that sound right?)

(not really, but I don't know how to phrase it either. I know she said that he had the opportunity to save her and he couldn't choose between her and morgan)

(Maybe we can just pretend he answered the question then and skip to something?)

Nick held Sara in the hallway. "I'm sorry that happened, babe. It shouldn't have."

"It's alright. The only person in the room that wouldn't have known about it was Ellie anyway. Even the judge knew about it."

He wanted to believe that Brass would never tell what Sara had been through, never hurt her like that, but although people knew parts of the story, there were very few that knew the whole thing. Morgan and Greg, who wouldn't have helped Ellie's camp or hurt Sara for anything in the world, himself, and Gil Grissom. He didn't think Grissom was involved, but he was afraid that Grissom had told Brass and Brass had been the one to do that to her. He could name the times that she mentioned going to seek therapy: when he was buried and Grissom was being a jerk, when she came out of the desert, when Warrick died, and after the divorce.

"Brass is my friend. He never would have done that Nicky."

"I don't know what's going on, Sara. All I know is ever since Ellie decided to plead insanity and tried to kill herself, he's acted differently. Like nothing she did in the past matters anymore."
"She's his daughter."
"I know that, Sara. I also know that she tried to kill Morgan because she wasn't getting enough attention. She killed her own mother. What stops her from killing Jim if she gets the chance? She's tried before."
"Don't know. But I want to help him."
"I'd like to do that too. But if it came down to Jim or Morgan, I wouldn't want to choose."
"So we help both."
He nodded, looking up as Morgan came out, followed by her dad and Greg.
"Hey, how you doing Morgan?" Sara asked.
"Sara, I'm sorry about what happened in there. That shouldn't have happened." Morgan immediately said. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah. It's not the first time someone's done that. And it won't be the last."
Morgan nodded. "Do you guys have plans tonight?"
"No. Why?"
"We were wondering if you wanted to have dinner."
"We'd like that," Nick answered. "If you're sure you're up to it." Although everyone else seemed to be catering to Ellie, Nick had tried to make sure that Morgan, the real victim, was okay.
"It was Morgan's idea," smiled Greg.
"Then of course we'll come." Sara said with a smile.
"Honey, I've got to get back to work." Ecklie hugged his daughter. "Call me if you need me and try to get some rest too, okay?" He whispered before leaving his daughter with the only person he trusted to take care of her.
Greg nodded. "She's okay."
"Thanks, Sanders," he said, trying to be gruff, but it was no secret how he had evolved since Grissom's departure and actually flourished with his daughter in the same city.
"No problem."
He left about the same time that Jim walked out. He wanted to go over to Morgan, but didn't know how.
"Hey Jim," said Sara, going to hug him. She knew he felt awkward.
"Sara." He hugged her. "I didn't tell her that. I would never do that." He knew how upset she used to be upon mentioning of her mother or the murder.
"I know. Don't worry."
"I'm sorry about this. All of this. All either of you tried to do was help me, help my daughter."

"God. Talking to Ecklie is easier than talking to her or Greg these days and that's not easy at all. I keep thinking if Morgan hadn't been trying to help Ellie, help me, she wouldn't have been alone with the guy in the first place and wouldn't have been shot in the second place. I don't know what to say to them."

"They think you're angry with Morgan. Go and tell them that you aren't. That you feel responsible."
