(I think Sara's just trying to distract her until the others can arrive)

"I can't!" Morgan said, raising her voice, a rarity for her.
Sara swallowed hard. "I know but one of us has to go for help, and I can't right now."
Morgan turned, the hardest thing in the world for her, but never made it out of the room.
Sara gasped. "Morgan!"
Morgan was bleeding, but the power of the bullet had gone down considerably as it had gone through Jim first.
"Ellie! Let her go now!" Jim shouted.
"You cant tell me what to do anymore."
"Sara did nothing to you. Nor did Morgan."
"So I should kill you instead?"
"No. You shouldn't kill anyone."
"That's not an option."
"Then shoot me."
She heard a lone siren outside the house and knew it was her last chance. She fired.
Jim doubled over. Blood was pouring from his stomach. Sara was by his side in a minute, putting pressure on the wound.
"You son of a bitch," Ecklie was saying to the overanxious officer outside. "If anything happened to those girls!" He hissed.
They heard Ellie's shot and then one or more of the girls screaming before a second shot.
Morgan had tackled Ellie, knocking the gun out of her hand, causing it to go off. Now Morgan was the one who held it on Ellie.
Finn was right behind Ecklie. She ran inside and stopped short. "Are you guys okay?"
"Brass is shot. We need an ambulance. And Ellie is under arrest," said Sara.
"Morgan." Ecklie went to his daughter, putting his hand on her arm, seeing the blood, watching her wince. "Honey, give me the gun. You did a good job. She won't ever hurt anyone else, not you, not Jim, not Sara. No one. Just give me the gun."
Morgan did as her father said, collapsing into his arms until she saw Greg and ran to him.
Sara saw Nick and gave him a relieved smile but then turned her attention to Jim, worried about him.
"I've got him, Sar," Finn said gently, replacing her hands over Sara's, Russell helping her. "Go see him."
"I can't..." Sara didn't want to leave him after everything he had done for her.
"Go...Nicky..." Brass managed to say.
"No," whispered Sara.
Nick sat in the floor, his hands going where Russell's had been as their leader went to make sure Ellie was delivered where she was supposed to be. "It's okay, Sara. He's going to be okay." He tried to smile, but couldn't, not even for her.
"We nearly lost him last time."
"I know that, babe." He couldn't remember almost losing her before too and his arms ached to hold her, but knew it wouldn't be happening until she knew that Brass and Morgan were okay.
"Where's the ambulance?"
"They're coming," Finn promised both her and Jim.
"I want to go with him."
Ecklie had been trying everything he knew to get Morgan to go with Jim and get checked out. "Go with him, Sara." She said softly, the first words she'd actually spoken since it was over.
"You come too."
"She'll be there, Sar. Promise." Greg said, kissing Morgan's forehead as she retreated inside herself again.
Sara nodded and looked at Nick. "Are you coming?"
"I'm gonna ride with Greg and Morgan, but I'll be right behind you. I promise." Finn was going to stay there with the scene that had been the girls' house.
"Thank you."
"Any time." He secretly hoped it would never happen again. It had come far too close to his liking. He knew how easy it would have been for Sara to be the one shot, for Morgan to be more than just in shock, or for Jim to be dead already.
Sara followed the paramedics out to the ambulance and climbed in to ride with her friend.
After Finn promised she would get some of the other shifts to come in and help her, Nick rode in the front passenger seat so that Greg could sit in the back and hold Morgan.
*****
The hospital was boring for Sara. There was nothing to keep her mind from wandering to the worst case scenarios for Jim and she couldn't wait for Nick to arrive.
Nick promised to report to Greg and Ecklie and ran off to find Sara as soon as they arrived. He finally got to hold her and wasn't sure he was willing to let go, ever.
"They won't tell me anything, Nicky."
"Well, they're still trying to fix him up, Sara. If someone comes to tell us what's going on, it's one less person they have with Jim."
"It's been so long."
"It just feels that way. We were right behind you guys and we just got here."
"I'm scared. For Morgan and Jim."
"Morgan's going to be okay, baby. She's just scared. It's easier for her if she shuts down right now. She'll process what happened and get back to us." He kissed her hair.
"And what about Jim? What if he doesn't make it? He was the first one to believe that I didn't cheat on Grissom."
He didn't want to think about her ex right then, although it was hard, knowing how close the two used to be. "I wonder if I need to call Catherine. She gave me her number when she called after Nancy died."
"I miss her. Especially in times like this when she is calm."
"I miss her too. Finn's like having one of the girls here, but...Catherine was Catherine."
"Let's call her."
"Okay." He kept one hand on the small of her back, not pushing or prodding, but just for support.
Sara leaned against him, her eyes closed as she relaxed.

Morgan was pale and still quiet, obviously standing up simply by the power of Greg's strength beside her, but she was at least talking, which was better than the last time Nick had seen her. It was obvious that she and Ecklie were in some sort of feud as the older man stood apart from the couple. Morgan didn't seem to care, not at that moment anyway. "How is he?" She asked Sara.

Sara shook her head. "I don't know, they won't tell me anything."

Nick made room for Morgan to sit beside Sara, trying not to appear to worried about Morgan, but at the same time hoping that the girls could help each other, since there didn't seem to be a damned thing that he or Greg could do for them right then.

"Are you okay?" Sara said to Morgan.

Greg shook his head where he thought Morgan couldn't see it. She thought about arguing, but knew she couldn't. "Better than Jim." She finally answered the only true statement she could think of.

"Are you hurt?" She hadn't seen the blood on her friends arm.

Greg nodded even as Morgan gave the same answer she'd given her dad, "I'm okay."

"I'm okay." She said again, but didn't believe it herself.

Morgan stood, going with Sara, the boys never more than a few steps away.
