"With Katie it's not a question of if, but of when. Has been from the moment she learned to walk. She couldn't ever walk anywhere, always run, and she'd lose her balance, she'd fall. Just now the hurts have gotten bigger, much worse." Martha let go of her son and put a hand on Jim's shoulder, knowing exactly what he meant.

"Why? You're the only person who can come close to catching her anymore." He remembered how easy it used to be to pick her up, dust her off. Now he couldn't even get her to listen to him. He remembered the first time he'd met Castle, when they were still just partners, only even then he knew that if anyone would get through his daughter's stubbornness, it was her partner.
