Deeks was relieved when he got a phone call. "Hey. How is she?"

"She's out of it still. But she wants Callen. How's the Marine?"

"He didn't make it. Kens, I'm sorry. Don't tell KC, okay? Callen's scared that it'll hurt her worse."
"It will she's worried about him."
"Of course she is." He knew that Kensi had been too and that she would be hurting, even though she'd never met the man, just like Sam would be if it was a Seal. "We're trying to get there. Are you okay?"
"Yeah. I'm with KC. She won't let me leave her. Can you swing past my place and pick up mum and Ali?"
"Honey, we're not even in the states yet. As soon as we are, I'll get them. I think it would help Callen to see Ali."
"Thank you."
"Love you."
"Love you too. Say hi to Callen."
"I will. Call me if you need me and I'll call you when we land."
"Bye."
"Bye." He hung up, feeling helpless.
Callen looked over. "Was that Kens?"
"Yeah. KC's evidently been awake, but she's still out of it."
"How's Kensi doing?"
"She says she's okay, but c'mon, it's KC."
"I'm worried for both girls. Kensi's been through a lot lately, she doesn't need this too."
"I know. Something doesn't sound right. I had to tell her we weren't home a couple of times. I'm going to call Julia. Maybe she can just drive over there. Even if Ali can't be near KC right now, at least Kensi will have her mom closer than we are right now."
"Good idea."
He called the house, waiting until Julia picked up.
"Hello?"
"Hey, it's me. We found her."
"Good. Are you home?"
"Not yet. Kens and KC are though."
"Where?"
He gave her the hospital he'd been told they were at. "KC's not in good shape. I'm worried about Kens."
"I'm heading there now."
"Thanks." Deeks sounded relieved.
Julia hung up and got Ali ready.
"She's headed there now." He willed the plane to fly faster. If something else happened, there was no way they could get there before it was over.
"Thank you."

"I'm her mother," Julia said to the nurse who was standing between her and the girls. "This is her daughter. We're going in there." She had adopted KC and Deeks as her own.
"I'm not stopping you. Her friend is in there too. Just be careful please."
Julia didn't take the time to see what 'be careful' meant. She found the room and then her girls.
"Mum?"
"Hey, baby." She kissed her daughter's hair before rubbing Alina's back. "Deeks called me."
"I'm so glad you're here. I'm scared."
"I know you are, sweetheart. I know you are. What do the doctors say?"
"She's really hurt. She needs a pacemaker and medication." Kensi felt like she was going to cry.
"She's strong, Kensi. Like you. She'll be okay."
"I know, I just don't want her to be hurt. She's my best friend."
"I know, sweetheart. I know. Will they wait until the boys get here before they put the pacemaker in?"
She shook her head. "They're waiting until a room is free."
"So what do we do next?"
"I don't know."
"When will they let her go home?"
"Soon I hope."
"I'll find out and find out what she'll need once she goes home." Besides a home off a military base.

Arguing that Callen might be thinking the same thing or that Kensi would have her house and hands full seemed moot. She knew her daughter wouldn't listen. "Okay, sweetheart. I'll tell them."

The doctor came in with Julia. "We found an operating room."

"Not long. We should be in and out, but we will make sure that is all the damage she suffered." The electrical burns worried him, as did the fact that she kept drifting in and out. They should have had to administer anesthesia, and they would so she wouldn't feel anything, but she should have been awake.

"When can I take her home?" Kensi hadn't realised she was doing it, but she had taken it to be her responsibility to keep KC and Alina safe.

"She can probably go home in a few hours if she rests. She won't feel 110% instantly."
Julia nodded. "We understand, doctor. Just please take care of her. She's our family."

Kensi moved back to let them wheel the bed out. "Mum, what if there's more damage?"

Julia rested her head against Kensi's and Alina's as she watched the stretcher go away. It could have been her daughter. "Do you want me to call Marty?"
"Yes. I need him."
"Can you hold Ali for me?" Julia asked her daughter.
Kensi nodded and took the sleeping child from her mother. Alina nested closer to her aunt while Julia hit the speed dial by her adopted son's name.
Kensi kissed her head. "She'll be okay baby."

Deeks had a bad feeling when the phone rang, worse when he saw the caller ID. "Yeah, Julia. How are they?"
"They took KC in for surgery to put a pacemaker in. Kensi is terrified."
He looked at Callen. "Let me talk to her. Please."
Julia handed the phone to Kensi. "He wants to talk you honey."
Kensi brightened a little. "Deeks?"
"Hey." He realized he didn't have words for this. The only thing he could have possibly done was hold her and they were still hours behind. "She's going to be okay, baby."
"I know, I just can't help being scared."
"I know. I wish we could be there." He was going to hate telling Callen, but worse than that for him was knowing Kensi was in pain and not being able to help her.
"Where are you?"
"Still flying. We're about six hours behind you."
"I miss you."
"I miss you too. What are the doctors saying?"
"She should be fine after the surgery."
Julia frowned, but kept her silence. Her daughter had enough to deal with as it was.
"You still there Deeks?"
"Yeah, babe. I'm here." He was tired and his chest was hurting, but he just wanted to go home.
"I love you."
"I love you too. We'll be home soon. When she wakes up, call me so Callen can talk to her, okay?"
"Okay."
"And call me if you need me. Try to get some rest. She and Alina will need you. If Ali gets too much, call Michelle, ask her to share godmother duty." He thought KC would be okay; she and Sam had been talking more on her few trips home and this was an emergency.
"My mum is here."
"Okay."
"Love you. Tell Callen I said hi."
"I will." He hung up and then faced Callen.
"Is she okay?"
"She's in surgery. They're putting in a pacemaker."
"What?"
"Now."
"What else did they say?"
"Kens says the doctor says she should be fine after the surgery."
"Good."
"Callen." He started to say something and shook his head.
"What?"
