Natalia woke up and all she could feel was pain. She could hear Horatio talking to her and tried to focus on his words.
The paramedics continued to call Natalia's name, hoping that she would answer them. They wanted to get her out of the upside down van, but couldn't until she was awake. They had Ryan with them, calling out too.
"Nat!" yelled Ryan as loud as he could.
"It hurts, Horatio." She could hear him saying he knew, trying to comfort her, but she couldn't get to him or him to her.
Ryan heard her voice at last but was confused. Horatio wasn't there. No one knew where he was. "Natalia. It's Ryan! Can you hear me?"
Horatio was starting to leave. "No. Don't leave me. I need you...I need you too. Don't go."
Ryan was scared now. He yelled out for the medics to get Natalia out if the van. Natalia screamed out in pain when they tried to move her out.
"Stop. We need to cut her free or we are just going to cause more injuries." One of the medics said.
Horatio spoke in Nat's ear. "Relax. The medics are going to free you and help you. Ryan is out there waiting to fix this and make sure you're okay."
She smiled for him. "You'll be there too, right?" She saw the look on his face. "Right?"
Horatio shook his head. "I have to go sweetie. I'll see you in a little while."
"Promise?" Her voice broke. "Horatio, promise."
"I will be there soon," he said, his voice fading.
Natalia was crying when they finally got her out, not solely because of the pain, but because somewhere inside of her, even before Ryan said a word, she knew something was wrong with Horatio.

Ryan took Natalia's hand and helped the medic lead her to the ambulance.

She couldn't stop crying and finally whispered, "Where is he?"

"I don't know Nat. But we'll find him. Cal and Eric are looking as we speak."

She was already trying to sit up, even in the ambulance.

"No, Nat, you need to rest."
"What if it were Lina?"
"You would say the same to me."
"And you wouldn't listen." Ryan shrugged. She was right and he couldn't deny it. "I know something's wrong, Ryan. He...He would never leave one of us."
"We will find him. I promise."
She shook her head. "How long has he been missing?"

"About an hour. Maybe two."
"Does Lina have Kaya?"
"Kaya is still in school. It's only one." She nodded, her head hurting, but not about to admit weakness. She knew the more she admitted hurt, the less likely they would be to let her help and she had to help.
Ryan sat with her, rubbing her back gently to calm her. "Any minute now, Eric is going to call with news."
She moved away without actually meaning to. "I'm going back to the lab, Ryan. You can come with me or you can stay here, but I won't be here."
"You aren't going alone."
"Then c'mon." She managed to stand without falling or crying out. Strangely enough, the pain she'd been through from Nick and work over the years helped her function now.
Ryan followed her, watching to make sure she was okay. She wasn't okay, but she faked it very well. She let him drive, trusting him to take her to the lab instead of home or back inside.
When Ryan parked at the lab, he turned to Natalia. "Are you sure you want to do this, Nat? We can go somewhere else."
"We're wasting time." She bit into her lip as she was walking up the stairs, silently cursing the fact that the building wasn't easier to get into. Eric and Calleigh were talking when they arrived and Eric's eyes flamed at Ryan as soon as he saw Natalia.
Calleigh intervened. With Horatio gone, she was in charge and made a decision to let Natalia work, as long as she was with someone at all times. Natalia shot Calleigh a grateful look, knowing the girl would understand if no one else could.
"Let's get to work," said Calleigh after a small smile for Natalia. "Horatio left a message with the receptionist. He wanted to say 'Calleigh, you're in charge until I get back. I have to find Natalia, no matter what happens.'" Natalia closed her eyes. It was her fault. Horatio was hurt somewhere, alone, and it was her fault.
Calleigh noticed her friend and mentally kicked herself. "There was another part of he note, but that's private. Nat, it's for you."
She opened her eyes and held it in her hand. Eric noticed how badly she was trembling. "Nat, why don't you help us from here? There's plenty of ways you can help without being in the field."
Natalia shook her head. "I'm fine, Eric. Where do we start?"
"We have some leads. Ryan, why don't you and Eric go to H's last seen spot and check it for anything leading to him. Nat and I will go and check out this other address."
"We'll call, Nat," Eric promised, putting his hand gently on her shoulder. "You two be careful." He left with Ryan.
"Are you okay to do this? I know you're injured and scared."
"I have to, Cal. I..." She stopped, afraid if she started crying again she couldn't stop.
"I know. It's okay. Just let me know if you change your mind."
"I won't. But thank you." She couldn't. She and Horatio had a life together, a family, something that would never be the same, she would never be the same, without him.
"We're gonna find him." Natalia nodded silently, leaving with her friend.

Ryan climbed out of the car slowly, thinking about how he had left Natalia with Calleigh, when both girls were sad. He didn't know what was going on with Calleigh, but he wanted to make sure they were okay.

Eric was worried about both the girls, wishing they'd divided up differently. He knew Calleigh thought of Horatio as a second dad, sometimes more than her own dad. And he couldn't imagine what Natalia was feeling. The closest he came was when Calleigh had been injured in the fire a few years back, unable to breathe, but at least he'd known where she was.
