Ryan helped Castle get her into the car, wincing as he heard her moan, not liking her pain anymore than he did Jenny's or Sarah's. Esposito joined them soon after. "She'll get her stuff and meet us. I'll text her where when we get closer." He knew that Castle's apartment, as well as Kate's own, were off limits and wasn't liking the idea of the Hampton house or Jim's cabin either.

"I have a place that Jenny I used to go to, before Sarah was born. It's quiet, secluded. We could go there," said Ryan.

Kate drifted in and out of consciousness, barely feeling when they put her down in the motel bed a short time later. Lanie gasped at seeing her friend like that, but, as she had when Kate was shot, she put her fears aside and became a doctor, taking care of Kate not as a sister or even a best friend, but a patient.

She showed Castle the damage to Kate's head, careful of her hair. "Javi, can you find something so I can wash some of this blood out of her hair?" She was worried there would be something she was missing through the dark substance.

"Ice bucket, warm water, towel. There should be some of that travel shampoo in the bathroom." She spoke without looking up, trying to access if Kate had any other injuries. She visibly cringed every time she made her friend moan, but she needed to see the damage and without machines available at hospitals, she didn't have options.

Esposito nodded and disappeared into the bathroom, returning a moment later with shampoo while Ryan went outside to get a bucket for the water.

Lanie spread one towel on the bed under Kate's head, using the washcloth to dip into the water enough to get Kate's hair wet and then to get the shampoo out until finally Kate looked a little better. "Javi, Ryan, you two go outside," Lanie said, her tone scolding although both knew she wasn't really.

The boys did as she said, though they were confused until they realised that she probably wanted to check Kate out.

Lanie let Castle stay to help her. "Alexis packed her some clothes," Lanie told him. "We'll get these bloody ones off her while we check her out." She knew Kate wouldn't want the boys to see her like that, even though they were like her brothers. "I think she may have put a few in for you as well." Kate's blood was still on Castle's shirt.
