"Of course you do, sweetheart," Horatio told her. "Better than almost anyone."

"Then key me help. If she escaped, I know where she might go."

"Where's that?" Eric said, giving H the look that said 'humor her'. He knew Horatio and Natalia disapproved of Kaya being involved with cases, but sometimes there just was no other way.

"You don't believe me."
"I do believe you, honey, but you've gotta know that she might not be there." Eric told her.
"I didn't say she was. I said maybe."
"I believe you, Kaya," Ryan said, although it was obvious Calleigh was siding with the other adults. "Where, sweetheart? Where do you want us to look?"
"There's a really pretty park near this big building Lina had to go to once. She liked it there."
"There's a really pretty park near this big building Lina had to go to once. She liked it there."
"Do you remember what building? Or what she had to do there?"
"It was a big, brown building. I don't think I saw a name on it. She said she was meeting someone."
"Do you remember who?" Ryan ignored the others who were looking more and more skeptical. It was the only lead they had; he'd jump at anything.
"Matthew? It sounded like that. Is he the one that took her?"
Ryan wasn't jealous, but it troubled him that he didn't know the man. "Did you see him?"
"No. She said to wait for her on the couch. She was only five minutes."
Ryan was let down, but tried not to show it. "If I needed you to, could you show me where it is? Do you remember the way?"
"Yes. Yes. I can."
"Are you sure it's a good idea?" Calleigh asked him softly.
"Anything's a start. So far we've exhausted every lead except for what Natalia's running, that sheet of paper, and Kaya. I'm not stopping. Eric wouldn't with you and Horatio d...wouldn't with Natalia."
"Come Ryan. We need to go."
He nodded, slipping his hand into his 'little sister's, and hurrying out with her.
Horatio watched them go. "If Nat asks, Ryan took Kaya home. Understand?"
"You don't think she's going to find it out and kill all of us for lying to her?" Eric asked.
"It's a chance that's better than 'we deliberately ignored your rule about getting your kid involved in all this'. Believe me. I'd raise hell if someone involved Mari in a case." Calleigh told him. "Even if it was family involved."

"Calleigh's right. We need Kaya for this," said Horatio.

Eric nodded, finally agreeing to keep it a secret.

Her former captor must have realized the same thing that she had a few hours before, that he had nothing if he let her go and if she got killed out here, which was entirely possible given some of the stories of the Everglades, he'd still be blamed for her death. She could hear him behind her, not on foot, obviously, but some sort of atv. Matthew grinned madly as he chased Lina, knowing she could hear him catching up. He was enjoying the fact that he was scaring her, although, he currently only planned on taking her back and tying her up so she couldn't get away again. She knew even as well respected as her father was in the law enforcement community that there was no way he or Ryan could arrange what was needed. The only option was for her to run. She'd shed her high heeled boots miles back, hoping the ground she'd gain not running in the heels would be worth what she was doing to her feet. Matthew slowed down as he got closer, giving her the illusion that she could still get away. She heard something moving in the trees beside her but went on, not knowing what would be worse. Matthew stopped when he saw the trees move, then sped up to catch Lina before the animal could.

She turned and looked just as a panther leaped on him. Struggling not to scream, she got a second wind and ran as quickly as she could. Matthew yelled until the panther bit his neck, killing him.

She ran as fast and hard as she could until she felt her world go black.

Ryan didn't have time to go back to the lab and drop Kaya off. When they found out who had her, Natalia, Calleigh, and Walter went to his house in the city as Eric, Horatio, and Ryan were dispatched to the cabin.
"Can I help?" Kaya asked as they parked at the cabin.

"No," All the men said at the same time.
"Please?"
"Sweetheart, you can help by being here in case your mom or Calleigh call." Horatio tried.
"But dad..."
"No, Kaya." Horatio said. "I've already got one daughter in danger. I won't risk you too."
"Fine." Kaya watched them leave, and as soon as they were inside the cabin, she got out and went looking for clues.
They found enough to confirm that someone had been there recently and Eric saw ATV tracks, but nothing that could lead them any closer to Lina. Kaya almost screamed when she saw the boots that she loved. She knew straight away that she was on the right track to finding her sister, and she picked up her pace.
Horatio came out, followed by Ryan, and met Eric. "It looks like it's going to rain soon." He remembered the fire, how it had skipped and doubled back and almost killed Eric and Alexx. "We need to get Kaya to safety and check in on the girls." He looked towards the Hummer. "No."
"What?" Eric and Ryan asked in unison.
"Kaya. She's not in there. She's gone. Kaya!"
The guys joined in with Horatio, calling out for the little girl they all loved.
Kaya heard them calling but didn't stop. Someone was on the ground in front of her and she wanted to make sure it wasn't her big sister.
The lightning caught fire in the distance, at the far end of the horizon. "Call the girls." He said to Eric before following the ATV trail, the only choice he had. "Kaya! I'm not mad, just please, sweetheart. Please answer me. Kaya!" He sounded more and more frantic, in fear for both of his girls' lives. "Kaya!"
"Daddy!" shouted Kaya. "Daddy! I found Lina."
He ran to Kaya, stopping when he saw Lina. "Oh, my God."
"Daddy, she's hurt," cried Kaya.
"I know that, sweetheart. Ryan's going to take care of her. You're going back to the Hummer, right now."
"No. I'm staying with Lina."
He picked Kaya up easily and carried her to the Hummer, locking her inside. "Eric, get her out of here. We'll be right behind you. Tell the girls to meet us at the hospital."
"I want my sister!" Kaya shouted at her father.
"I know you do, sweetheart. I'm sorry." He said to his daughter. To Eric he just said, "Go."
Kaya sat back against the seat, crying and screaming for Lina.
"I'm sorry, sweetheart," Eric told Kaya, his heart breaking. "One day you'll understand."
