"Not right now, sweetheart. Alexx...Alexx is going to fix her up and we'll see her again really soon, okay?" He couldn't look at Kaya, but Eric saw the expression in his eyes. Ryan was scared, understandably, and hurt, something Horatio must have said or done without thinking as the fact that the older man was pacing back and forth and only Natalia was standing near him.

"Of course he will."
"Nat will talk to him. It'll be all right, but you've gotta understand..." Eric started to defend Horatio and realized what he wanted to say he didn't want Kaya to hear.
"What Uncle Eric?"
"Nothing, baby girl. Can you do me a favor? Can you call Aunt Calleigh and see how much longer she's gonna be? And if she needs me to come help her?" He handed her his cell phone.
"Sure." Kaya moved to the door. "Hi Aunt Calleigh."
"You've gotta understand that Horatio didn't mean to say or do whatever he said or did. You know how he is about the girls, understandably."
"I know, but it's like he didn't trust me to keep her safe."
"He doesn't trust anyone right now. Not even himself. He's scared of losing someone else. Why do you think he had me take Kaya back so quickly, by myself? It's not because he was afraid of ticking off Natalia; he knew she wouldn't fight with him while Lina's in danger or hurt."
"But, he knows I love her, I would never let her get hurt."
"He does if it's thinking rationally, but he's not thinking rationally right now." He paused. "There is no one I trust more than you guys with Mari. You know that. But if something..." He paused. "I would not be thinking rationally. That's all I'm trying to say."
"What should I do?" sighed Ryan.
"What would Lina tell you to do?"
"Be strong."
He nodded. "And to keep an eye on Kaya, I'm sure."
"Of course."
"So just do that. And remember, Cal, Nat, and I, we're all here for you, okay?"

Eric took a deep breath and walked off to check on Kaya and retrieve his phone.
"Are you okay?" Natalia asked as Horatio hadn't said a word after asking her to talk with him.
