(yeah, but they have to find him, like they did on the show. that's what I never understood. the tornado picked him up and threw him and they acted like that was no big deal)

Walter tried to explain what had happened, but only the men were listening. Lina was combing the area, calling for Ryan, still hoping he would pop up with that grin. She'd kill him first and then hold him second, for longer. There were no tears coming from her face, even as the situation seemed like it was getting more real by the moment.

Eric shook his head, closing his eyes, stepping a few steps away to call his best friend. "Cal..." He paused. "Kaya's a teenager and the lab is full of grownups. She's old enough to color with Mari in H's office, right?" He could tell his voice was about to break, but wouldn't let it, not in front of the others, especially not in front of Lina.

He gave her the address. "We need you down here. And anyone else that can help." He told what little Ryan had told them. "Lina's...Lina's not taking it well, babe. She needs you and Natalia. And to be honest, if we're going to find him in this, we need everyone we can get."

"What about Kay and Mari? Maybe we should get a babysitter?"
"Calleigh thinks Kaya's old enough. There's adults in the lab if she needs help and one of us can always go back. Maybe in a little while, Lina will go back with one or both of the girls to wait..." Eric wanted to believe that, just like he had survived the bullet in his head, Ryan could survive a tornado, but he had to look around at the devastation and wonder.
Horatio nodded, but didn't like leaving the girls without someone. Eric didn't like it either, but considered it an emergency.
"They're in the safest place possible in Miami right now and if I know Cal she's calling Mom or Alexx on the way."
"Okay."
"I'll work with Walter, try to find the path of the tornado. Unless you want me to try to talk to Lina?"
"No, that's my job."
Eric had known his friend would respond like that and nodded, going to Walter as Tripp was arranging for search dogs.
"Lina!" called Horatio. Lina stopped, slowly turning towards her dad. "Honey, I know you want him to be here..."
"He's here, Dad. He's here in this...trash, somewhere. And I'm...I'm not letting him stay here. He's coming home."
"I know. We will find him, I promise. But you need to think clearly so you don't get hurt too."
"I can't stop and think, Dad, because if I stop and think I will either tear into Walter or break completely. So don't ask me to think."
"Then stay with me."
"I'm looking for him. I'm not standing here and talking until...until maybe it's too late."
"We don't have to talk, just stay with me so I don't lose you too." Lina nodded, but didn't really respond until the Hummer screeched upon the scene.
Natalia made sure Mari was still asleep. "Kaya, your most important job right now is to stay in this Hummer until your dad or I come to get you or until you see Aunt Alexx. Your only job is to do that and to watch Mari for us. Okay?"
"Okay."
She looked at Calleigh and got out of the Hummer, leaving the windows open for air, making sure the girls couldn't see anything if they woke up before joining the guys.
"Mama?" Mari asked sleepily.
"It's okay, Mari. Go back to sleep," Kaya said, wanting so badly to get out and get involved in the action. She had heard enough to know something bad had happened and it was confirmed when her mom took her to a scene. She'd never been allowed to go to a scene before.
"KK, where we go?"
"For a car ride, Mari. See Lina, I think."
"Yay! Lina!"
"You've gotta take a nap first. My mom said."
"Are you staying?"
Kaya nodded. "Yeah, I'm staying..."

Eric held Calleigh close to him for a minute, knowing he wasn't off the hook for not coming straight with her, but not caring. He'd done penance before; he'd do it again.

He nodded. "I'll try calling Mami. I...I don't want them to see Lina. Especially Kaya. Last thing we need out here is her freaking out about Lina and about Ryan. Mari's too little to understand, thank God, but Kaya will."
