"She's a little upset. Lina..." He paused, having to force it out. "Lina's running a fever. It's high enough that she's weak. Her breathing...her breathing was affected. Natalia just needs to rest overnight, but Lina...Kaya's scared."

"Understandable. I'll look after her. By the way, you don't have a great neighbour. Kaya was alone when I picked her up."

Horatio muttered under his breath, rubbing the back of her neck. "I'll take care of it when the girls are better." As overprotective as he was, there was no doubt that Kaya would not be staying with her again, even if he had to figure something out.

"I know. But thank you. The same with us and Mari. The trouble usually comes when we're all working. Natalia doesn't want her in the lab more than she has to be, which is understandable, but she may have to."

He nodded, seriously considering it, but the worry and fatigue he felt was still evident on his face.

"I don't want to leave my girls." He felt guilty leaving Kaya as it was.

"Natalia's miserable about being away from K, even if we all know she's in good hands, and it got worse when they moved Lina into another room. Something's wrong with my little girl and they can't figure out what because she won't let anyone near her besides Ryan because..." He paused. "A man had a knife to my little girl's throat. He slit it....and my girls ended up in the ocean again, a place Nat hates so much she won't even go swimming anymore. So I know you mean well Calleigh and I thank you for what you and Eric are doing, but I can't leave them here. I can't go home."

"Kaya wants to stay. I'm asking you as a mom. What would you do?"

"I'd make her go home. She's too young to be here."
"That's what I thought." But he was glad to have the confirmation. Natalia wasn't really in the frame of mind for rational decisions and he couldn't even ask Ryan or Lina. He trusted Calleigh's parental decisions a lot more than he did his own.
"Do you want me to stay?"
"Please." There was a touch of vulnerability in his voice.
"Give me a moment to make a call." She pulled her phone out.
"I'll be back." He was getting worried about being gone so long from the girls.
Calleigh nodded. She called the girls over to her.
Kaya's eyes went to her dad and then to her aunt. "Is everyone okay?" She was still hoping she would get to stay.
"Yes. Eric's mum is coming to pick you two up. I need to take care of something, and I'll be home later."
"I'm not a baby." She knew her mom wouldn't be proud of her for arguing, but she couldn't help it.
"I know sweetie, but, just for tonight, I need someone to stay with Mari."
"Why can't she stay with Mami? I want to stay here with my mom and Lina."
"Kay, you aren't staying, I already told you that," said Horatio.
"You're not my mom. I want my mom."
Calleigh winced at the words. No one really thought of the fact that Horatio wasn't Kaya's biological father and she really hoped it wouldn't come up tonight.
"Kaya! That was not nice. You will listen to Calleigh, and we will talk about your behaviour when I get home."
"So never," she said under her breath, not thinking the two grownups could hear.
"If you don't stop being rude, you're grounded."
"I don't care! I want my mom. I want Lina!"
Calleigh looked at her and didn't see what Horatio was, the teenager acting like the two year old. She remembered Horatio's words from earlier, how scared he'd been. "Honey, your mom needs to rest. So does Lina. They're always so proud of you. Calm down and think about what they would want you to do."
It was a very very long time before Kaya spoke again. She had tears in her eyes, not at Calleigh's words, but at the frustration she felt. "I'm sorry, Daddy. I just..." She stopped herself. "Will you bring me tomorrow?" She asked Calleigh.
"First thing, sweetheart. As soon as Uncle Eric comes home to stay with Mari."
Horatio softened a little. "It's okay Kay, I know you want them. But you don't need to be here. You shouldn't have to see the inside of a hospital."
Her first response wanted to be that she wasn't a baby but she remembered her aunt's words. "Will you stay with me until Mami comes?"
Calleigh nodded. "Of course, sweetheart."
Mari chose that moment to bound over to her mum. "Mama, why KK sad? I make KK happy."
"Baby, KK's sad because Nattie and Aunt Lina don't feel good. She needs hugs and kisses, okay?"
Mari smiled and hurried to Kaya. "KK, hug for KK." She wrapped her little arms around Kaya.
Kaya found what the rest of them had long since known. It was impossible to be in a bad mood with Mari.
"It's okay," Calleigh whispered to H. "I've got them. And I'll come when Eric's mom gets here."
"Thank you Calleigh." He kissed his daughter and Mari and walked off.
Mari let go of Kaya long enough to reach up for a kiss and then hugged her again.
"She okay?" Natalia asked softly when she felt Horatio come into the room. She'd heard bits and pieces of the fight and was torn, feeling for her daughter as much as she knew that it was not okay Kaya respond like that.
