"I am."
She nodded, trying to stop trembling. Her dad would never let her work in the field if she couldn't calm down, control herself better.
"Please, even just so you can get your feet checked."
"I'm fine, Ryan." She was running on pure adrenaline. Everything would probably hurt later, but right now she was focused on Kaya, on how scared her baby sister was. She knew that fear.
"Okay. Clean yourself up, and then we'll head out to find her."
She nodded and walked towards the restroom, not letting Calleigh even offer to help. The blonde walked to Ryan. "She's not doing well, is she?"
"No. But she wants to find her sister, and I don't blame her."
"I think it's more to it than that."
"She feels responsible, I know."
She shook her head. "That's true, but that's not it. I don't...I don't know what it is."
"Me either. I just want her to be safe."
She nodded. "I just don't know what we can do for them. I talked to the teacher, we have a little to go on, but not much."
"Lina said she got the make and model of the car and the plate."
"I'll call Tripp. Get an APB and Amber Alert in the works." She paused. "Then I'm going to ask Mami to go pick Mari up. I...I'd feel better with her with family instead of the sitter."
"Okay. Call if you get anything."
She nodded, going to get the description of the make and model from Lina. Ryan sighed, feeling useless.
Horatio approached, feeling much the same way. "Is she checking on Lina?"
"Getting the make and model of the car and the plate."
He nodded, running a hand through his hair. "Maybe they'll spot her quickly."
"I hope so, Lina really isn't coping well."
"She wasn't much older than Kaya."
"Sorry?"
"You know Lina's mother was a prosecutor, right?"
"Yes."
"She and Lina were taken when Lina was fifteen. Not much older than Kaya."
"God, no wonder she's so scared."
He nodded. "It's why I want Lina and Natalia somewhere safe, but both of them are the most stubborn women I've ever met." It didn't dawn on him that Natalia's stubbornness was how she kept up with him and Lina was a carbon copy of her father.
"They are safe."
Horatio looked doubtful. "I just wish there was more we could do."
"So do I."
Lina came back out walking with Calleigh.
"Anything Cal?"
"I'm going to give the description to Tripp. He was wanting to help." She pulled out her cell phone and walked away as Lina joined the men.
"Ready to go?"
"Do we have something?" Lina asked, hopeful.
"No, I was just thinking we could drive around a bit, see if anyone saw the car."
She nodded, grateful for something to do, even if it might not help much. It turned out that the drive was helpful. A young woman out walking her dog had a lot to say. When the woman described screaming, Lina felt like she couldn't breathe. Had they hurt her little sister? Why was the woman talking about her mailbox? She couldn't give a damn if they'd knocked the mailbox down when they'd sped away.
"They went left, towards the bridge."
Horatio thanked her, promising that she'd helped. Ryan sped off toward the bridge, his fingers crossed that Eric would be able to pull video footage.
Eric smiled slightly at Natalia. "Hey. They got something." He went into the van, helping her up with him.
"What?"
"The van Lina saw one of the neighbors saw where it went. At the speed it was going, it should have passed this bridge...Now." He saw a van that could have fit the description go over the bridge.
"Go, if my baby is in there, I want them stopped."
Eric gave all cars nearby the goahead but cautioned that the thirteen-year-old daughter of two CSIs was the victim, to please show extreme caution. The van slowed as it approached the bridge where Eric and Natalia were, pretending to not know what was happening. Eric was posed as a construction worker, holding a stop sign, and, remarkably, the road actually did look like it was being worked on. The van, if no other reason than to escape notice, actually stopped. Natalia snuck up behind the van as Eric moved to the front to explain what was going on.
Kaya was moving to the back and managed to open the door. "Mommy?" She hadn't called her that since she was a baby.
Natalia was so angry when she heard her daughter. Eric was still holding them up, so Natalia quietly opened the door, letting Kaya out.
One of the guys heard Natalia. "She's got the girl!"
"We'll come back for her! Go!" They almost ran Eric over they sped off so fast to avoid the cops who were approaching, including a very pissed Horatio Caine.
"Mummy! Where's Lina?" cried Kaya as she clung to Natalia.
"What?" Natalia asked, kissing her daughter, checking over every inch of her.
"Lina, she was behind me. Mummy, she tried to save me."
Eric got them out of the street as Ryan screeched to a halt, Horatio running over to them. "K? Kaya, sweetheart, are you okay?"
"Daddy. Daddy, I want Lina."
"Sweetheart, are you okay?" Horatio asked again, his eyes looking at Natalia for confirmation.
"They didn't hurt me. Mummy, they looked like daddy a little. My real daddy." Kaya looked afraid.
Horatio felt a stab of pain as she said 'real daddy', just as Natalia had seemed to react like she was Kaya's only 'real parent' earlier.
"It's okay, sweetheart. You're safe," Natalia whispered, holding her close.
"Daddy," she said, looking at Horatio, "why do they look like my real daddy? And why did they take me?" She had seen Horatio look hurt, and wanted to make sure he knew he was her real father, no matter what. "You should be my real daddy, you are my daddy right?"
"Sweetie, let's get you and Mommy home, where you're safe, okay? Eric, can you get all three girls home with Ryan? I'll be there as soon as I can."
"I think..." Eric paused. "Sure, H. Whatever you want."
Kaya hugged Horatio, not letting go. "Come with us dad."
"I have to work, sweetheart. You'll be safe with Uncle Eric and Uncle Ryan, right?"
"Who will keep you safe?"
"I'm always safe. Don't worry."

"Will you be home soon?"
He nodded. "Yes. I'll be home soon."
"I love you daddy."
"I love you too, sweetheart. Go with your momma and Eric now, okay?"
"Okay." Kaya grabbed her mother's hand. "Wait, where's Lina?"
"With Ryan," Eric said, pointing at the vehicle.
Kaya was at the car in a moment. "Lina!" She threw open the door and hugged her sister.
Lina hugged her, holding her close. Eric waited for Natalia to get in the back with the girls and sat in the front with Ryan.
"Lina, did they hurt you?"
"No. I'm okay." The soreness was setting in, but it didn't matter right now.
"Promise? I'm sorry."
"Oh, no, baby, this wasn't your fault. None of this was your fault."
"Are you sure?"
"Definitely."
"Okay." She cuddled up to her sister.
Eric and Ryan took them straight home, parking inside the garage, shutting the door before they let the girls out and checking the house before they allowed them inside.
"Can I eat now? I'm hungry."
"Of course, sweetheart," Natalia told her. "What do you want?"
"I don't mind mummy, whatever you want."
"Quesadillas?"
Lina asked.
"Yummy. Can I help you make them?"
"Of course." Natalia noticed a grimace of pain on Lina's face as she took a step, but knew there was no way to get her to sit without upsetting Kaya more.
Kaya moved throughout the kitchen, getting ingredients for Lina. "What else do I need to do?"
Lina showed her how to put the ingredients in and fold the tortilla in half, coat it with butter, and then flip so both sides got browned.
The first one got burnt and broke apart. Kaya was disappointed. "What did I do wrong?"
"Cooked it a little too long. It's okay." She showed her how to do it again, patient with her.
This time it worked. "I did it mum, look!"
"I see that, baby. Why don't you let me finish up in here while you and Lina go find us a movie to watch?"
"You don't need help?"
"Natalia, we can do it," Lina said, sensing that Kaya wanted to help.
"If you're sure..." She didn't seem sure.
"Please mum?"
Natalia nodded, going back to where the boys were.
"Is everything okay Nat?" asked Eric.
"I'm worried about them."
"Me too. Especially Kaya. Did she say anything?"
"No, she's worried about those quesadillas."
Eric laughed. "Maybe she really is okay?"
"How could she be?"
"She's young. She can bounce back better than us," said Ryan.
"I don't know. Something tells me it's not okay."
"So she'll talk when she's ready."
"Have you gotten anything out of Lina?" She looked at Ryan.
"Nope. She wants to be with Kaya for now."
"I don't like it. And I don't like Horatio not being here. It's not that I don't trust you guys to take care of things, because I do, but..."
"He should be here instead of us."
"Not instead of."
"With us then."
She nodded. "With his family."
"He'll be here soon, don't worry."
She looked in at the girls and again saw Lina grimace.
"Nat, it's okay, you know."
"Did she get checked out?"
"Refused to."
"Stubborn."
"Very."
The quesadillas were finally made and Lina moved to get sour cream, salsa, and guacamole out.
"Should I tell everyone dinner is ready?"
"Please."
Kaya ran to the living room. "Dinner's ready."
"Okay, baby. We're coming," Natalia told her, following her in, although she wasn't very hungry.
Kaya had already set the table, and moved around it until she found a place for Lina next to her. Lina waited until everyone had gotten everything before sitting down next to her little sister.
"Kaya, did you make these?" asked Ryan.
"Yes, but Lina did most of them."
"You were a great helper," Lina told her with a smile.
"I want to help next time too."
"Okay."
"Maybe we can make something for Dad when he gets home."
"Yeah."
"Why don't you two watch a movie after? Let us clean up?" Natalia told her daughters. "This was such a good change." She usually ended up making dinner for everyone unless Lina was there.
"Are you sure Mum? I'll help."
"I'm sure, baby. You and Lina rest."
"Okay."
After dinner, Lina walked, or more hobbled, into the living room with Kaya.
"Lina, is something wrong with your foot?"
"I'm fine." Like Natalia, she didn't want Kaya anymore upset than she was.
"Lina, do you know who my real dad is? I know it isn't dad."
"Honey, did you ask Dad that? Or Natalia?"

That's not what she'd meant but she could ask Natalia later. "I think you mean biological dad, K. And yes, I knew him. We all did."
